58.
I have a IBEW union pension AND a 401k all paid for by the union.
Last April paid cash for retirement lot in AZ.
House plans complete and ready to submit for permit.
I'll retire in 2020 on my 60th birthday and won't look back.

Spent 36 years in law enforcement, 26 years with the US Border Patrol. Retired March of 2017, at the age of 56. We spend about 5 months away from our home in AZ. We spend 3 months in Montana volunteering for BLM at Garnet Ghost Town. Best summer job for a retiree. We then travel around with no real destination in mind.

Bless your wife teaching is a hard job. I'm not sure if my wife will be able to stick with it until she gets her 27 years in. we bought our camper in may and all she wants to do is go camping.

Hello new to the forum. I am planning on retiring at the end of the year. I am extreme lucky. Never worked a day in my life. Enjoyed a wonderful career in the fire service for 33 years. I will be 55 when I retire and the bride who is 56 will be retiring from teaching. The plan is to upgrade from pop up to Greyhawk class c.

This is a very interesting thread as it just goes to show how different circumstances can affect the lives of so many people. In my case I have had a very satisfying career and am still planning to go until I am 70. At this point it is not all about the $$$ but more about life balance as I get more than enough time off to enjoy travel and leisure time. Our family lives in the area so my DW and I get to share in their lives and watch and participate in our grandkids activities. We have no plans to FT although we will probably do more traveling after the grandkids go off to college. It comes down to what makes you happy and what provides you with a sense of satisfaction. So when it comes to “retirement” there is really no wrong answer. Just enjoy life for as long as you can.

We have a 12-year-old daughter and I stopped working full-time when she was born to be the stay-at-home dad. We're fortunate in that my wife, who is 12 years younger than me, has a very good job with a flexible schedule. I guess you could say I retired from full-time at 50. I'm 63 now.

My wife and I both retired at 65. We're in our second year of living the dream.

Retired at 64 3 years ago. Selling our house we have been in since 1978 and wonder down the road in the RV for several months. Then buy a small place an hour from our daughters as home base but keep on RVing. We have been blessed with good health and want to hit the road while our health was still good. After years of hard work, living with in our means and careful planning(that paid off) we are enjoying life.

44 is pretty young to retire. I believe I would miss working if I retired that early.

A financial advisor for years told clients to work as long as they could and build up a big nest egg. His best friend did that and worked till he turned 68. Two months after he retired he had a health issue and was bed ridden. The advisor is now saying retire when you comfortably can and enjoy life.

Grandpa took early retirement it wasn’t 6 months later he went back to work. I believe the honey do list was worse than working

First time I have come along this thread... love it too! love hearing the different stories, our story is I’m a union carpenter, and my wife is an ultra sound / vascular / echo tech, (like Norty’s) I was blessed to start at 18 and now have. 7 years and I can go with full pension, I’m tired of working in the cold and my body is showing some signs of 30 years in the trades. DW has a few more years than me but will go,early as well. What I have watched is the people that retire early and stay active enjoy the fruits, if you get seditive bad things happen to your body. Also I take a page from Dave Ramsey, don’t be a slave to the lender.

We have been on cruises, trips to Mexico, Jamaica, about 6 years ago I went to gulf shores and told myself there is SO much to see in US, I don’t need to go out of the country. We are funny about hotel rooms so that is what got us into camping, started with a tent and now just purchased our first used 5r.

Thanks for everyone’s responses.
