My plan is 55. That is the earliest point I can take my pension plan without huge penalties.

Retired at age 63 1/2 and that was seven years ago. Not sure I could call it planning but I had been thinking about retiring for about 40 years before that!

I prefer "between careers" to "retired"

That's because I retired at 50 (61 now) then after a couple of years I opened an automotive performance shop and did that for 5 yrs (prior careers were elec engineer, s/w developer & home builder). Not sure what the next one is, right now I just trade stocks when I feel like it.

57. Goal was 55 but had a hitch in the schedule when I was downsized at age 45. All worked out and retired just 2 years behind schedule.

Turned 70 last fall and it is an absolute shock how quickly those 13 years have gone by. Don't wait until you are too old and feable to enjoy your retirement. You never have enough $$ but in reality what you run short of quickest is time.You will never make up those extra years you work just to make a few more bucks. I chose 55 early on after my father retired at 62 and died 3 months before making it to his final day on the job.

Now, close to 67 and plenty to do to stay busy.

Age 48. in 1991. Me and many managers at the old Bellsouth with over 20 years with the company were offered a early retirement It was a great offer that allowed me to retire with a lump sum or pension computed on 10 years more than I had worked with other great incentives. I had 90 days to decide and it took me about 15 minutes to say yes. I think they took the first 3000 that responded yes.

Best Halloween of my life was Oct 31, 1991.

I started a small home repair business for 14 years until I was SS eligible and let the lump sum work for me in the market. At 62 I slowed down a lot but still have a few great clients that call me at times to do small jobs. I also have started working on some valued friends campers doing things that they don't or won't do to maintain their rigs. It keeps me very active and busy.

No time to stagnate yet.

What surprises me in where in the H did I find time to go to work. LOL

DW and I will likely never retire. We both hope to keep our minds very active with our work as educators for as long as possible. We will probably back off a bit in our mid-sixties. We have seen a lot of people deteriorate mentally when they stop challenging themselves with critical thinking, problem solving, analytical reasoning, creative engagement and expression, and meaningful relationships. Being "needed" and having a strong sense of purpose are extremely important, too. Our work with kids and families provides all of this. We will do as much as we can as long as we can.

We do not really view "retirement" in a traditional way. We believe we are here to serve and work until the Lord calls us home. We will relax and enjoy creation and cool trips during our time off. We hope to take longer trips and host some as we get older.

Retired at 45 but at 51 let my brothers talk me into helping them out part time. So much for part time. Before I knew it I was manager and their always on a cruise or camping. Been 7 years now and more than full time. I enjoy the job and the pay is good but takes to much of my camping time. Told them in Dec. I'd give them two more years and I'm gone for good. Ready to hit the road.
