Snowbird 2020

How many are questioning whether or not escaping the Snowbelt is an option in 2020? We’re watching the pandemic blossom in Texas and beginning to wonder what we might experience this year. No doubt all social events are at risk and the Canadians could be stuck at home.

I’m giving 2020 a very low rating on yelp.

Wouldn't exactly call it "stuck"!! LOL

I can't see the border opening until next year (maybe), or when there is a vaccine and it's proven to work! Then folks will need to show proof of vaccination to enter either country.

Hopefully we see the border re-open by in the fall of 2021! Until then I'm sure you southern folks appreciate all the choices/options available to you with lack of Canadian traffic.......as we currently do up here. Being an avid fisherman.......I have never had so many choices and availability to go to my favorite lodges as I have so far this year.

But, I also spent a lot of time south of the border and miss it greatly!

We are going through the same thing. We made our reservations in Florida last winter but it doesn't look good. I would hate to spend the whole winter social distancing in a campground, but then I don't enjoy doing the same thing with snow and freezing temperatures.

Looking at 2020 from my rv full timer point of view but still a Weak word choice on my part - an extended time out at the homeland maybe better describes what’s happening.

Was going to start a thread with same question. We too have reservations in Florida this coming Fall/Winter. Still contemplating what to do. Has anyone definitely made up their mind as to whether to go or not? Is anyone in Florida or any other COVID hotspots? If so what’s it like right now? Thanks for any input.

Mostly bringing this back to the front.

Right now it looks like we will be doing North Ft. Meyers starting in mid December hoping for three months. Personally I'm more inclined to leave mid November, but the Chief of Staff outvoted me.

Anyone else coming up with any conclusions?

We full time in our North Point on Long Island and not sure if it will stand up to the winter temps so we have to go South.

If you'll take some advice from a Florida resident...

Stay away.

We are now in Phase 3 of re-opening, which translates to "It's OK, you can re-open everything, and you will be nice and wear your masks, won't you? If you don't mind"

The response, from a significant proportion of the community, was "Hell no, we're indestructible, we don't need no masks while we party and we don't care about anyone else. "

So, by the time you get here, you can expect us to be well into the second wave of infections and re-infections.

You ask - are we heading south for the winter??? Heck yea we are. Currently packing up the Seneca for the trip next weekend.

Normally we depart the second week of November, but got caught in the snow on the way south. This year we don't plan on putting on long pants until 2021.

We are already here in Az. The thought of spending the winter in North Idaho in a camper doesn't appeal to me. So far it has been in the low 100's and it beats scraping ice off the windshield. We will stay away from strangers and groups but I'm sure the desert won't be crowded.

We leave New York City January 3 for Arizona. We are definitely going. Don’t even want to spend the summer in NYC let alone the winter. LOL
