Snowbird Questions

Hi All,

DW will be retiring this year and we are looking to become snowbirds for the winter in 2022. We would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on how to go about finding campgrounds or places to winter over. We are looking to stay in the central part of the state within easy access to the theme parks in Orlando as well as places a bit further west or south of the Tampa area. We're not opposed to moving around a bit. We're wondering how long in advance to try and book campgrounds. Are we too early or already behind the curve? What are some things we should be looking out for with this as a new experience? Places or areas to avoid? How long do campgrounds allow people to stay? Minimum or maximum times for booking? Where might be a good place to search and find campgrounds?

Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.

Greg

If you plan on using state parks then you need to study up and be prepared for a process of getting online at exactly the right time to get a reservation. Yep, process is difficult to find a reservation. Private campgrounds also fill up for better spots.

Don't wait, start reserving now.

Like others have already said. Pick areas and start calling. Get no lists for openings. Getting into Florida for winter season takes some early planning. Google earth is your friend. Check out possible locations with it if you do not have time to check out in person. Good luck

Enjoy the journey

Orlando Area:

Lake Magic, Thousand Trails Orlando, Sherwood Forest, Tropical Palms, Florida Camp-In, Deer Creek, Theme World, Mouse Mountain...plus several KOA's..

Only two I could vouch for would be Lake Magic and Deer Creek. Start calling or get on-line. Several of the above are all part of ENCORE. They do book fast and once COVID is under control it will be "GOOD LUCK" since many Canadians are chomping at the bit to get back.

Being full timers that love travelling, we keep ourselves booked out at least 7 months in advance.

Yes, that's what happens when you "think" you typed out what you meant. Was trying to say west toward Tampa and south of that area.

Thanks for the park suggestions Grumpy. We will start our search immediately and maybe if we're lucky can have some bookings before the border opens again. I'm presuming that to book a site at say Thousand Trails we would need to be members?

No, they just get a few free days from what I understand.

We stay in Adelaide shores rv resort in Avon Park, Florida. The prices are very good if you stay 6 month. Extended stays are 3 month or longer, or you can rent for a month or weeks and those have electric furnished

Recommend " RV Trip Wizard.com ". Although, I am a new user to this software, I DO find it useful. ($49 / year). There are YouTube clips & tips using it.
