Spend Next Winter in the Keys

We will be starting our full-time RV life next Oct and were hoping to line up the camping spots to ease down to the keys from TN. Thinking to book multiple three/four day stops along the way then once in the keys, spend a month before heading back north. Has anyone taken this adventure in the last few years? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Just starting to plan. Thanks!

We've helped a few RV trip planning clients like this- bounce around Florida and drop down into the Keys. Finding uninterrupted time in the Keys in the winter can be a challenge. It's best to pick and area and just start making phone calls. The southern Keys are best known for their more partying atmosphere and the further north you go, the more peaceful it seems. Don't expect a lot of space between sites in most places and do bring big wheelbarrows of cash! It's not cheap.

We camped just outside of Key West in2009 and it was fun and also the most expensive camping we ever did. I think it cost 750 bucks for a week. And you do have to plan ahead. Stopped by Lake Okeechobe for a few days and it was cool too

Find and get reservations for the month long stay and work backward from there. Be prepared for a shock at the availability and prices.

We stay every year for the month of March in the Keys. We have stayed from Key Largo to Key West. We reserve for the next year when we arrive. We found an A number one Resort in Islamorada we will be staying every year from now on. Sun Outdoors Islamorada. Check with a lot of campgrounds as people cancel from time to time. We also found out people reserve a couple places for the same time and cancel one when the time comes.

You will not find anything for $750 a week now!

Yah I hear that. I thought at the time I would not be bring the camper back to the keys. We did do a bed and breakfast for a few days last year, it was not a low cost option either, but it was fun.
