Sprint Excess Talking

I received a nasty gram from Sprint this past week. After talking with them it seems I spend too much time talking (yes voice) out of my home area. This excess talking is almost all on the Sprint network, but they tell me talking out of your home area is roaming and I am subject to termination if I don't stop.

I full time in an RV and am rarely in my home area. They said the only solution is to change my number to a local number each time I move, which they don't want to do nor do I.

This is crazy. I have their Simply Everything plan and have had it for over 2 years. This issue just now cropped up.

Does anybody have any thoughts on why now? What has changed?

It is your 'home' area since the term 'roaming' went away when every large carrier went nationwide, however you are not really using their network. To enhance coverage maps a lot of carriers create 'roaming agreements' with other providers instead of putting up their own towers, and when their customers make more calls on those other networks it costs them more money per their agreement. To curb excessive spending, they state in their contracts that no more than 50% of your calls should originate from outside your 'home' area.

My suggestion would be to go to a larger company that owns more of their network and that should alleviate your problem. You will pay more than you are paying right now since Sprint is one of the value leaders in terms of pricing, but you will get a much larger and faster network.

Simply Everything? Methinks not.

I have been with Sprint for 10 years, and found out last week that The Simply Everything Data plan does not include using your phone as a mobile hotspot. That is an additional $39.95 per line per month.

The kids already got the update not to use it as a hotspot. we'll see how that works out.

First, I can't stand Sprint service. Too many dropped calls and never seems to have a strong signal almost anywhere I went. While their rates are good having to switch your number everytime you move? That's just rediculous. I have a number that is from another state and use it primarily here in NY without issue. This went for both Sprint while with them for 4 years and now Verizon which has much better coverage.

Take you buisness elsewhere IMHO.

It is actually $29.99/mo. For the record though, no carriers offer 'mobile hotspot' as a free feature. Verizon does have some great new plans coming out that will make tethering much more affordable though.

Ive been using Verizon MIFI stand-alone box here for years now. $29.95 amonth for 3GB dataplan. Will connect up to five users within 60-70 feet from the MIFI unit... Slips into your shirt pocket while you play will all of your internet toys sitting on the beach. Works anywhere there is a Verizon connection... best HOTSPOT deal around me thinks... Their newer MIFI has external antenna connection which makes it even better.

I got the cellphone cradle that the MIFI box sits in and picks up an outside antenna signal through the cradle and then gives me a hotspot for the whole trailer running from the outside antenna connection.


This works on anything I got here that has a WIFI connection (up to five anyway) - not held down to the one smart phone with small keyboard.

FYI - That is a retired plan that you are allowed to keep as long as you don't change it or upgrade your device. A new customer would pay $50/mo with Verizon's current pricing if they wanted a mifi device.

Get Foxfi which provides a free wifi hotspot on many phones otherwise you can use it with a micro usb to usb cable hooking your cell phone directly to a computer such as a laptop. I've been using it with both AT&T and Sprint for the past year or so both on my laptop and my home pc.

Switch to T-mobile. I have been very happy with them and no charge for roaming as long as I am in the USA..
