Go to Canada's Web site. You will find all of the dos and don't listed along with needed travel documents.

Just crossed the border today at Sweetgrass mt
Any beef must be in commercial packaging and must state product of USA or close to that.
Dairy no restrictions, eggs same as beef. Poultry changes all the time due to avian flu. I just didnít bring any.
If your pulling your rv, make sure you know your truck plate, they will ask since the rv blocks their cameras.
Have passports out and ready to hand over. We were through in about 5 minutes.

For God's sake, NO JOKING!!

Returning can be even worse. Some U.S. Customs Agents have a Douglas MacArthur attitude. Beware the agent wearing Doug Mac sunglasses!

I don't know the entire history here but I believe it has to do with keeping mad cow disease from passing into the US from Canada.

I do know that locally AZ Game and Fish has a very aggressive program preventing import of deer and elk (and other game) from being brought into the state from outside AZ because of how invasive the disease is in game animals. Arizona has never had a case in state however every state around us has.
