Where to get Remicade/Infusion treatments
We are on Medicare Part B so infusions are covered, but probably not at those stand alone, spa-like clinics. Our plan also allows us to be seen anywhere in the country.
My husband needs an infusion every 8 weeks. His regular doctor can write the orders and communicate with other docs around the country.
But, we are finding other docs want to see my DH before they will administer an infusion and their schedules, for new patients, are always months out. Then, the infusion has to be scheduled so we have to make a return trip.
The hospitals we checked are the same. You have to be under one of their docs care first. And, the docs often want an annual visit, even though our hometown doc sees my husband every year...at least for all the meds and testing needed for Crohnes disease.
We want to spend about 5 months in the south, exploring. Our current plan is to find a gastroenterologist in a central location and set up the new patient visit. Then, travel back every 8 weeks for the infusions.
We would prefer to find docs all over the south who will just administer the treatment on the say so of our regular doc. Our regular doc hasn't been able to help us find those places.
Is that a hopeless dream?! Many people get all kinds of infusions. We would be grateful if you could tell us how it works for you!
BTW, we can do these as an in home treatment. Husband has had reactions and Medicare doesn't cover this as a home therapy.
Thank you!
