2018 Trip - Detroit to Niagara to Sault St Marie

Hi Everyone,

We are planning an August 2018 trip to Niagara from Detroit and are planning to make it a 2 week road trip. I know NOTHING about this part of Canada, but have started researching quite a bit. Just to give you an idea of the route we are considering, I am planning on the following:
Detroit to Niagara
Niagara to Toronto
Toronto to Killarney Provincial Park
Killarney PP to Sault St Marie
then a day in the UP, then back to Detroit

Basically, we will be circling around Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

I've looked at Manitoulin Island and Algonquin which look really nice as well. I've had a tough time finding camp grounds once I leave Toronto though and it seems that the only campgrounds are the provincial park campgrounds that don't seem very conducive to a 35 ft TT (White hawk 29BH).
What are some your recommendations of places to see along the way?
Thanks!

Serpent River RV Oark on the North Channel
Of the Huron about two hours short of the Soo

Killarney and Algonquin both require reservations five months ahead of the visit. You’ll never be able to just drive in

So you have hope if your trip is in August

However it’s likely you only would fit at Lake of Two Rivers. Call the CAMIS reservation system. They can better inform you
Parry and Owen Sound ( two towns) both have KOAs

Check out the GoRVing website. There is a place in Killarney.

We did just drive into Serpent River
Just plan on getting groceries in Sudbury though I forgot red pepper flakes and the campground owner gave me a lifetime supply. Free

Check out Niagara-on-the-Lake. Great little town (that's where I'm from). Many wineries, a few breweries to check out.

Niagara Falls is the typically touristy stuff. You can find that out on Niagara Parks website.

On the USA side, check out Goat Island.

If you're in Niagara Falls Ontario be sure to ride the Whirlpool Aero Car.

The KOA in the north end of Sault Ste Marie is one of the better KOA's around.

We camped on Manitoulin Island at a private campground back in '96. Don't remember the name, but shouldn't be too hard to find. Was on a lake on the island - beautiful spot. The ferry from the tip of the peninsula NW of Owen Sound is a great trip of a couple hours. Must have reservations. Great little restaurant at the ferry docks. We're from North Carolina, so the Canadian girls swooned over our southern talking middle school sons... The boys stole a way on their bikes for a few hours, for us only to find they'd visited the local top-less beach... Enjoy the trip... slow down and enjoy the scenery. Nice fish restaurant (in plain house, but signed for miles...) on highway well east of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. Ontario - where the beer store is named... 'The Beer Store'...

I agree about our KOA being very nice. Also our Jayco service centre (Christie's Campers) will service your trailer even if you didn't buy it from them, and will even go out to your campsite for a repair (within a reasonable distance of course).

As others have said, take your time and enjoy, we've got a beautiful area up here and some fantastic beaches you may want to check out on the shores of Lake Superior
