3 hours from Chicago?

We are looking for some new places to visit around 3 hours away from Chicago. Devils Lake in Baraboo, Wi has been our home away from home park for decades and our girls went to college in Holland, Mi so we know those areas well, but now that we are empty nesters it's time to find some new sights. State parks with electric hookups are our preferred sites. Any ideas for nice campgrounds and areas that have some nice sight seeing around? Thanks everyone.

Starved Rock SP, but it can be hard to get ressies.

I would also make a trip to Elkhart IN, do the factory tour and visit the RV HALL OF FAME and MH MUSEUM, Elkhart Campground makes a good base. You can also do the STUDEBAKER Museum in South Bend.

We like Pokagon but you really need to lay eyes on sites if you go there because it can be tight for some bigger units. We mainly go to lost bridge west campground on Salamonie lake and we love the campground. both have electric and water on site but you have to dump at a station. Both have clean and nice bath houses but lost bridge just built a new bath house that's really nice

Potato Creek State Park in North Liberty, IN. The park has nice bike paths, if you bike. It's also close to South Bend and Lake Michigan. Casino in New Buffalo, MI. If you like wine, there are several wineries in the Bridgeman, MI area just north of the state line.

Well, Devil's Lake will be hard to beat - a beautiful place.
But there are several Illinois state parks within 3 hours of Chicago.
Starved Rock, as has been mentioned is a great one.
Look here for others
Parks
And these are a bit farther west, but many still within your driving time
Parks

Of course, if you get stuck on the Dan Ryan Expwy, I don't think even Grant Park is within 3 hours driving time!

Try Lake Shelbyville in Shelbyville, IL. Several state parks there and also Corp of Engineer parks.

Mississippi Palisades State Park near Savanna IL is a good one. White Pines State Park is another one.

We go to Lake Clinton a lot, always in a tent but not this year! They have full hook up sites and pretty much all sites have electric.. Mascoutin State park. Also Lake Shelbyville is a nice area to check out there are several campgrounds in that area.

secal48,
We're right next door!
If all goes well, we'll be taking delivery of our new 16XRB within the next week or two. We've also been looking for spots in northern IL, southern WI and northern IN. Devil's Lake, Elkhart, Starved Rock and White Pines are on our short lists so far.
Illiniwek Forest Preserve out in Hampton, IL is pretty nice and right on the Mississippi.

Cook county opened up 3 remodeled county campgrounds that can handle rigs up to 40ft, and are open 362 days per year, 6 day limit. I made a reservation at bullfrog, we'll see how it goes.

There is a KOA just north of Utica, and a fer others.

Will give you access to Starved Rock, and better yet and not as well known is Matteson State Park just a couple of miles south of S-Rock. If there has been some rain both parks are worth a visit. Matteson has some great trails and a very tall waterfall. Bring some junk shoes and just wade in the streams.

Both parks are a winter wonderland of frozen waterfalls if there has been come rain and below freezing weather.

Thanks for all of the recommendations, our calendar is pretty full now. We try to get out every other weekend (have to mow the lawn on the off weekends) and the last piece of puzzle is where to stay near the RV Hall of Fame in Indiana. Their website offers hotel listings but no campgrounds? Any ideas?

We stayed there a few years ago. It's just down the interstate from the museum.

Not sure how far this is from you but take a look at "High Cliff State Park" WI. Though I have never been there I have friends who love it there...

Camping Near Chicago Area - Forest Preserves of Cook County Camping

We live about a mile from Bullfrog in Hickory Hills, IL. We drove over to the campground a week or so ago and looked around. Concession building and shower buildings look great. Spaces are open and level, but pretty close to each other. No trees or shrubs to make anything seem private. Close to Maple Lake too. We were thinking of taking our 3 year old granddaughter for an overnight there just for the fun of being "camping." Our only complaint was cost. $50 a night is pretty steep. We are guessing our wonderful Cook County taxes drove up the price.

We were going to try the LaSalle/Peru KOA this weekend for our first outing in the new camper, but the weather report is keeping us home. Don't really want to hike around Starved Rock in the rain....
