I have not yet camped there, but a new member from Arkansas just posted in the new members forum. Maybe he will post up some spots for you.
I have only driven through the state park on lake quacita and it was nice!!

Hey chuck, welcome to the Forum. I moved to NW Arkansas less than two years ago so am just now learning about places to camp. However, I have good friends living in St.Louis who come down and camp at Mt. Magazine every year. They say its fantastic! Are you a fly fisher? If you've been around Mountain Home, I'm figuring you might be

I love Arkansas state parks. The state puts alot of money in the parks and it shows. We camp at Lake Degray State Park and it is beautiful. I live in Texas and I have stopped camping in Texas, due to our great State Governor cutting the parks budget. Texas parks have really taken a beaten the last 5 years. I also love Lake Quachita State Park. You have to make your reservation way in advance! We are going to Crater of the Diamond State Park for spring break. We are going to dig for diamonds, my kids love to that. I have nothing but praise for Arkansas State Parks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lake Catherine SP was wonderful. We stayed there last June and were really impressed. The lake is also quite beautiful. I would expect any of the parks in that part of the state (near Hot Springs) to be on a par with it. Full hook-up is also a nice plus.

I started fly fishing a couple of years ago Troutslayer. We are planning on camping at Bull Shoals State Park for Spring Break and I am planning on fishing every day of it. I will take a look at Mt. Magazine.

Another good place to stay for fishing is Denton Ferry RV Park just outside of Cotter, AR. They have FHU sites right on the White River with walk-in access.

I love Ark state parks too! They are the best kept up in my opinion of any state near me. I have been to Lake Catherine, Petit Jean, and Village Creek. They were all very good and different. We are about to go back to Pinnacle Mountain State park which is awesome, but no camping....however; there is a great COE park a few miles down the road called Maumelle Park and it is right on the Arkansas River and just minutes from downtown Little Rock. Enjoy!

There are many great places to camp in Arkansas, each offering alot in the way of scenery and activities. Some of my favorites are:
1. Petit Jean State Park-nice camping, lake for fishing, and a terrific hiking trail system. The views from the mountains are amazing.
2. Crater of Diamonds State Park- nice camping area with clean facilities. LARGE open area for scouring for diamonds in the rough, and a water park that opens in late spring.
3. John F. Kennedy campground- (my favorite) located on Little Red River south of Greers Ferry Dam. Some of the best trout fishing you will find anywhere.

I have camped at a lot of our state parks, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to any of them. The fam and I are headed to Peit Jean with some friends in a couple of weeks. It'll be the maiden voyage of our recently purchased 2005 Jayco Select popup.

Lakeview, Arkansas- Corps of Engineers Park

There is a beautiful camping area in Lakeview, Arkansas. It is a Corps of Engineers Park on Bull Shoals Lake off route 178. Great water access, kid friendly (playground), sand beach and very nice bathrooms with all the amenities including A/C in the summer. Fills up pretty fast, so you may want to make reservations well in advance. Hope this helps.

Most of the CGs on Lake ouachita are nice! The best campground in the state (Albert Pike) was closed due to the huge flood. I had been going there since i was born (30 now) and my dad since he was 8 and he's mid 60s. So it was sure sad to see it go.

Lake Catherine and Lake Dardanelle are favorites with us. There are some around the Hot Springs area that I have seen but not stayed in. I don't think you can go wrong with an Arkansas State Park.

Just got back from Maumelle a few hours ago (@ Little Rock)...it is a COE park right outside of Pinnacle Mountain....I would highly recommend. Very neat, clean and well kept. We were right on the Arkansas river and watched the barges going by was fun! It is about 5 minutes from town, groceries, eating , etc....but felt like it was way out of town.

Check out Petit Jean SP, DeGray Lake SP, Devils Den, Bull Shoals and Lake Catherine.

That should keep you busy for a while....

Arkansas has come of the nicest and cleanest state park campgrounds in the country. Do a google search of Arkansas State Parks and you will find all of the info you will need. I grew up in Arkansas and have camped at Village Creek, Lake Catherine, Lake Degray, Lake Ouichita, Greers Ferry, and a ton more.

I totally agree with you all that mentioned Lake DeGray. Didn't RV camp there but we spent a "picnic" day there a few years ago and it is definately on our list of stops when we take the Jayco that direction.

I have reservations for Devil's Den and Petit Jean State Parks in May. I noticed on the websight they say to avoid coming into Devil's Den via 74 if towing a large trailer and suggest coming in via 170 to avoid the steep switch back road on 74. To those who have stayed in Devil's Den, would that same warning apply to a 31 foot class C? 170 will be a bit out of my way, but if 74 is too hairy..... what say you?

I'm going to Devil's Den in June. I'd like to hear of problems with 74 towing a 35+' 5th wheel.
