Arizona state campgrounds/parks open reservations 6 months in advance. They have always been booked full 5.5 months out. It is kinda like concert tickets go on sale at 10AM on a given day and are sold out by 10:05AM.

I just read over the past few days more than one article pointing out how crazy it's getting, and will only get worse. Many, and I'll admit I'm one of those, are looking to private campgrounds or even buying a bit of ground to consider a permanent get away spot. I haven't seen any, but one article was pointing to a newfound build-out of campgrounds. If true, that takes two things: lots of cash and lots of time.
The unprecedented flood of newbies is doing two things,,,driving up used prices/rentals, and filling up just about any spot that can accept an RV as soon as it becomes available. One author even indicated that there were reservation bots. I'm not sure of that, but they use them for the concert and game ticket venues, so it wouldn't really surprise me.

The State of New York temporarily lifted the 9-month reservation window restriction for camping back in May and accepted reservations (Reserve America) one year in advance, so we are all set for the 2021 season. I believe its back to the 9 month advance reservation restriction. It is my understanding that all state campsites are sold out for July/Aug. 2021 excluding primitive sites.

Our favorite place used to work by phone call or makin a reservation for another weekend while you where there. Now the county says it should all be online so they had to change.
I booked 4 different weekends an when I printed the receipts 3 of the 4 where for the same weekend with one weekend having me in 3 different spots for the same days.
Hopefully they get it straightened out. If not half of our trips this summer are gone

You guys must be talking about weekends. Around here it's still fairly easy to book during the week, but that may change as well with all the kids being home schooled.

Good to know. Could be I was thinking of NFS cabins for AZ.
As a post script I have only camped at Kartchner and Fool Hollow once each in the past and had trouble finding spots open. They do go pretty fast. At least in most parks. Patagonia is another that fills quickly. Problem I have found with state parks is not all have full hookups.

Michigan state parks are 6 months and ALL of them are filling up fast. We've booked for just past july 4th. People.play games and will book for 2 solid weeks in a row and then cancel most of the weekdays so they can get a jump on the weekends past the 6mo time limit. The state has cancellation fees for each day you cancel and these morons gladly pay it. Dw has been up at midnight to try to book sites for us and sometimes misses out because they go like hotcakes out there.

I experienced the same thing for some campgrounds in Oregon and Washington, though they were all State campgrounds and smaller. Was able to get reservations after searching around each area.

Save Early, Save Often
Yes things are filling fast in Ohio as well. State Parks are booking 6 months out to the day, and being a more affordable place to camp, are in high demand. I already missed Memorial Day at an Ohio State Park so I went with a private facility. Yes Memorial Day weekend at Ohio State Park campgrounds are full. I'm waiting for February dates to come up so I can continue with my August reservation dates. Ohio is hungry for camping facilities but unfortunately has been way underserved by the State Park system. Hopefully some risk takers show up on the scene and start some new campgrounds within the next several years.

This is part of the reason we haven't gone to a state park in WI some time. WI allows reservations 11 months in advance. Everything 11 months out is always booked by 12:00 am.

X2 on WI state parks. And no more first come, first serve sites. DW booked 6 Sun thru Fri trips for 2021 last year. She got each one 11 months in advance but not always our 1st site choice. I can't imagine how hard it is to get in on weekends.

They only got rid of the fist come, first serve for 2020 because of COVID. None of the entrances were staffed until Oct. I think they will be bringing back FCFS at some point, but who knows when.
FCFS was one of the few things I miss about tenting. You could almost always find a site. Even in Devil's Lake or Peninsula.

The Provincial Parks here in Ontario are a nightmare this year. 5 months in advance, online booking starts at 7am. i tried 4 days in a row to try and get anything. There's never more than a handful of sites coming up on any given day and they are gone fast, usually 15 seconds after 7am, with the securing site wheel spinning on the screen, they are all gone.
I gave up and booked private for our trip at the end of August...
