California Beach Camping Labor Day Weekend
I am trying to plan a last minute camping trip for the family. Only had trailer for 6 weeks and want to take it out!!
This may be near impossible as it appears everything is booked already or you need to take a chance with first come first served campgrounds.
Does anyone have any tips for finding a beach site this weekend in SoCal??

Tips - book 6 months ahead. If you live close, you can always give it a shot, but be sure to have a backup plan - like heading home. Please post back if you get a place. I would like to hear how hard/easy it was to find. Southern CA beach camping is kind of my thing. I live in AZ, so I can't chance not making reservations. Good luck.

I wish there were, I would quit my job and move into my trailer. You can go to Pismo Beach, but I don't really consider that southern CA. Depends on where you are located in CA I guess.

Pismo is still doable but isn't that first come first served? With 4 kids I'm not brave enough to take that chance..I want something I can reserve. I have it on my calendar for the first of Jan., Feb. and March to try to reserve a spot during the summer.

I would say boondock and first come first serve. You have to pay, but they always have room and have no hookups. It will be crazy busy this weekend, but you are almost guaranteed a spot.

Why would he be kidding? Actually curious about there. Was looking at if for a January camping trip and thought it might be warmer there.
Didn't end up going camping this weekend but did go to a civil war reenactment so it wasn't a complete bust.

Welcome to the world of RVing along with a few million of your closest friends. Last minute camping at a desirable location anywhere near a holiday or peak season without reservations will open your eyes to reality. Even 6 months in advance may not be enough. Have been going to a State park in Fla the last 4 years. Nice place right on the Gulf with miles of white sand beaches. Even in Feb the place is booked full most of the time and for sure forget weekends without a reservation. Reservations can be booked something like 10 or 11 months in advance and after getting skunked in year 2, have booked our time the day reservations opened. By June or July you'd be lucky to find one of the preferred sites.
Personally we try to avoid holidays and peak seasons, but then we are retired and can go when others can't. One of the better parts of retirement.
Enjoy the new camper.

How about posting your findings on your SoCal Community Forum for others in the future - and provide in this thread a link to that community.
