Campground Suggestions for Long Island NY

Hi Everyone!

My family are headed to visit old friends on Long Island NY. Around the Port Jefferson area. (About half way up Long Island, on the Connecticut Sound side.)

My searches have resulted in very few options. Wildwood State Park was fantastic, except they don't allow pets.

Any suggestions for campsites? Full hookups would be nice, but we could "rough it" one weekend.

Thanks in advance
Craig

We used to live on Long Island. One problem is to many people and not enough campgrounds. Hopefully you can find something available for your trip. We loved Wildwood and thankfully ferrets don't bark !!

Only options are County CG's and require a county issued green card for pet friendly CG or Eastern Long Island Kampground 1hr east of PJ but tight spots and the only private CG on the island that I know of.

Thanks so much for the info. I stumbled over the county campgrounds during Googling, but was unclear whether RV's were allowed. (again, dry camping is OK for this one.)

Now, green cards... that sounds like a pain to go through, but I'll contact Suffolk County to inquire.

THANKS SO MUCH!!!! this is priceless info.

Looks like Suffolk County in NY has some nice campgrounds! Based on all your suggestions, I'm looking into "Cathedral Pines" in Middle Island.

They have about a dozen Electric/Water sites, and a whole mess of Electric Only sites.

Thanks for the tips!

Used to live in Southampton but never did camp anywhere on the island.

Eastern Long Island Kampground is nice. I was there a few weeks ago. It is in Greenport, on the north shore.

Full hookups and cable tv.

Huh. I've been searching the KOA.com website all day, and you're the second to mention there is a Kampground on Long island. Their website is completely silent about Long Island.

They are not associated with KOA as far as I know.

E. L. I. Kampgrounds

Wildwood is nice, our favorite here on the island.

Once at Wildwood, I forgot and left a cooler outside. Woke up to noise and found the biggest Raccoon I ever seen in my cooler eating meatballs with a smaller skinny one watching him as if he was learning from the master !!

Ahhhh.... I stupidly assumed "kampground" with a k was a KOA trademark or something.

It was about 10 years ago before parting ways from the brand of KOA. So they kept the "K".

I did not know that. Thanks for the info. I always thought the K was just a different take on the word campground for them. It makes more sense now.
