Campgrounds close to home

Living here in east Tennessee. We are blessed with tons of campgrounds near us. Just wondering how it was where other people live.

We live in Minnesota.
Lots of great state parks and national forest campgrounds nearby and all over the state that we visit and camp.
We have one within about 25 miles that we go to on the spur of the moment just to get away for a few days. Also, Wisconsin has lots of state park and national forest campgrounds that are close by to us as well. We usually buy a MN and a WI seasonal park sticker (as both states charge admission to the state parks).

One of the blessings of living out west, plenty of public lands. Most Federal lands allow dry camping/boondocking 14 days at no cost. Plus we have our share of state and national parks.

Most of the campsites around us are 45 minutes to 1.5 hours away...mind you there are plenty of beautiful Provincial campsites in British Columbia we haven't tried out yet. The furthest one that we have gone to is Lightning Lakes in Manning Park. Beautiful lakes to canoe it up there and they have rentals as well. We will be heading to Alice Lake the last week of June for 8 days. We were lucky to get in there since they are one of two Provincial Parks that have power with the other one in Porteau Cove Provincial Park. That one is off a major highway and railroad tracks. These were the two Parks that were used for accommodations during the 2010 Winter Olympics so that is why they have power.

We have one in our town and a destination for many people is Normandy Farms in Foxboro, MA. Cape Cod is close by too. We like the nearby campgrounds to do our shake down trip before long trips to check out all the mechanics.

One of our favourite campgrounds is literally half an hour from our house. From time we pull out of our driveway to the time we back into the camp site averages about 30 minutes, so this is a good place to go to on a Friday night after work. A few more of our favourites are usually anywhere from a hour to an hour and a half away. We do go on longer trips, 2 to 3 hours away, once or twice a year.

The closest one is about 4 miles. James Island county park. We stay there several times a year.

We're in middle TN and have a lot of nice campgrounds close by, but since we've been here for so long we don't really use them......we always drive to yours in East TN/Western NC

I am looking forward to the day that Tennessee puts campsites at this location. It is just over the ridge from where I live.

We live within walking distance of Indiana's largest state park with over 400 campsites. By road, it's about 6 miles from the house to get back to the campground. Always go there for the first time out every year to make sure everything works. Our other campgrounds are usually within 2 hours from home.

While we enjoy camping, we really enjoy seeing different parts of this great land, hence, we do very little camping in Arizona. We prefer to travel to different states, different areas and spend some time becoming "a local". Typically, we go to a different state each "summer".

We have a wonderful state park (Davidson River) about 30 minutes from home.
Usually our first trip of the year is a weekend there to make sure all is well with all the camper systems.
We will occasionally do a short weekend there as it is a 1 minute walk to the trout stream from the RV door, and I don't have that at home. :-)

There are several PA state Parks as well as private campgrounds in our area. We are 20 minutes from the SWEETEST PLACE on Earth..... Hershey, PA.

We have at least a dozen, maybe 2, within an hours drive of us in N. AL. I grew up 20 minutes from one of the nicer State Parks in AL, Wind Creek.

We have 2 State parks within 30 miles but haven't stayed at either yet. Since we bought the Melbourne we take a long weekend every month usually 2-3 hours away but we do a couple that are 4 hours close to the OP's neck of the woods in East Tenn. Twice a year we take a long road trip. Last year we went to Colorado Springs (summer) and San Antonio (fall) with stops at Mobile, Corpus Christi and Galveston. This year we are going to Washington DC and a trip to determined later.
