Camping in Arizona

Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows of a good camping (or Rv spot) in Arizona, near Gilbert area..We want to do a springtime birding trip in that area, and I am having a tough time figuring out where to go. Thanks!

Can't help with Gilbert, AZ but Dead Horse State Park is a very popular birding area. Dead Horse SP is not far from Cottonwood, Jerome, Sedona, Camp Verde, and is in the heart of the Northern AZ wine country.

The 'Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival' is in Dead Horse in April. The festival starts taking reservations Feb. 1.

Lost Dutchman State Park is close to Gilbert and has RV spots. We've not been there yet ourselves but our daughter who lives in Chandler has tent-camped there and says it's pretty nice. We are hoping to get there this upcoming season if possible. From there it's about a 30 mile drive to Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park which is a day park. The web site for Boyce Thompson lists it as an "Important bird area" with more than 250 species having been recorded.

You can find details on both of these parks on the Arizona State Parks Web site. There should be links to other attractions in the general area as well

We have spent some time up north in some of the areas that oldmanAZ has pointed out as our daughter went to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, but that was before we had our trailer. Now that we have the trailer we are looking to make some trips to those areas as well as there are many great places to go and it is really beautiful country. We really like the high desert areas.

Thank you so much for all that info! We also love the high desert and are looking forward to taking the trailer there! I will most definitely check out what you've mentioned! (We are in Central California foothills)
