Camping in the Everglades in April

My wife and I are looking for campgrounds in the Everglades for the second week in April on our way down to the Keys. We have never been to the area and are looking for one or two campgrounds to serve as a base. We will be bringing our kayaks, so looking for places to paddle as well. We will need at least electric hookups. We want to get a good overview of the area, maybe a airboat trip, etc. Thank you in advance for your suggestions. I'm sort of intrigued by Flamingo campground; what can I expect there in April; reservations necessary?

I have a reservation here in the beginning of march. Never been there though. Never had an RV before either. so there you have it. Supposed to be a great canoe place. http://floridastateparks.reserveamer...ctedSiteRb=315

I've camped at Big Cypress state park and loved it...Good luck on your journey. All the state parks in the Keys are wonderful...

Be careful! The gators are not afraid of humans and the place is overrun with 20' pythons... Keep an eye on your pets and children. I had several "encounters" last year on an Everglades trip. Kind of scary...
