Camping in the GSMNP

Thought I'd start a new thread for those of us who like to camp in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Unfortunately these are all non hookups, but still make for great early spring and fall spots. We personally like Smokemont, ElkMont and Cades Cove, and some that are harder to get into with bigger rigs would be Cataloochee and Deep Creek. I've grown up camping all of these spots and unfortunately it has spoiled me on the type of foliage and surrounding o like to camp in. We started in tents when I was real little, then up into a popup in my teen years. My parents have since graduated to a 31' TT and my wife and I have the 39' 339flqs 5er. I'm hoping this thread can serve as a place to post for specific sites that larger rig friendly. As my battery is dying, I'll post some pictures here in a little bit, but would like to mention the CADES COVE CAMPGROUND has had some recent renovations to it's C loop, that have made it much harder for us larger guys to park. They have re-concreted half the sections spots and are now shorter than ever, as much as I know this CG needed the work done, I hate that they are moving the curbs up, and making it more difficult to get larger rugs in. We made reservations this past fall based off my entire life camping there and knowing which spots were good, and then upon arrival with my 5er learn they have now listed our site as a van only. But I got her in there

Took a while to get them parked as it's now almost a complete 90* to the road and them moving the big boulders closer to the roads

Special place

GSMNP is truly a special place to camp. The dense forest canopy seems to provide a comforting shade like no other place I have ever been. No hookups and little to no cell signal has you camping like the old days, which is a good thing. Some people enjoy the sites and sounds of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge when visiting the park, for our family, we'll take the mountain steams, relaxing hikes and bears any day, all day.

We love to visit Cade's Cove but we looked at the Cg last year and no way I could even drive thru it with my rig in tow.

Just curious as to why, we and many others have been for years. Just too tight for your liking? I will admit, anything much larger (any larger really) than or 339flqs, would be stretching it, I've seen it done, but ours is about as big as they get in there
