camping near Lynwood, Illinois

We are looking for a campground as close to Lynwood, Illinois. We are traveling there for a baseball tournament and would much rather camp than stay in a motel. Are we nuts for hauling our camping that close to Chicago? Any suggestions on campgrounds? Thank you so much for your help.

Living nearby I can give you a little advice. You may want to drive a little to get a nice place. Jellystone in Portage is pretty much all seasonal. I've never stayed there. Indiana Dunes SP is good but hard to get into. Oak Lake Family Campground is nice but maybe a little too far for you. Michigan City Campground is nice but, again, maybe a little too far away. Most of the places that are somewhat close to Lynwood do not get good reviews.

There is a KOA south of Kankakee which would probably be the closest and most reliable at an hour from Lynwood. I have not stayed there but I hear it is nice. As redenbacher stated, not much around Lynwood that is reliable. The KOA in Kankakee is probably the closest you will find. There is also a Martin Campground near New Lenox; however, it is usually full due to be small and the spots are close (a quick stop over) and I have no idea about their quality.

Looks like the Jellystone in Portage Indiana is only about 30 minutes from Lynwood. I think we may try there. Have anyone been there before? Any other options are always helpful.

Thanks!

The Michigan city campground is typical subdivision camping, pretty close together, but it was clean and the people were friendly when we stayed there last year. Right off of the interstate but I don't know how long your drive would be. Good luck.

Can you give some information on Emerald Trails Campground. The website doesn't give much. Have you stayed there before. Would it be close than the Jellystone in Portage? It looks like we wll be playing in fields in Chicago Heights and South Holland as well.
