Cape Cod/Acadia

I've blocked out two weeks this summer starting the weekend of the 4th of July and I want to see New England. I tentatively have scheduled a week on Cape Cod, two days at Old Orchard Beach ME, and then heading up to Bar Harbor/Acadia from there. How many days do I need to properly explore the Acadia area? Is a week on The Cape too long? Should I bother trying to swing by The White Mountains for a couple days on my way back to Ohio? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IMO a week on the Cape is not too long, especially if you add trips to the surrounding area (Boston, Plymouth, etc.) to your agenda. Arriving the weekend of July 4th, be prepared for LOTS of traffic and delays, especially at the bridges.

As far as Bar Harbor/Acadia, I think you'll want at least a few days. We could easily spend a week in the area, but we sailed up there for many years and would be exploring old haunts.

If it were me, I'd swing through the White Mountains on my way home - no sense in coming all this way and then not seeing something. livelylittlecampers have a great blog about a trip they recently took to Maine/New Hampshire and I'd recommend reading it (don't know the URL, sorry). IIRC they also had some campground recommendations.

We spent a full week at Acadia and did not feel that it was too long. The park has great (adventurous) hiking trails. Not at all what I had expected. Did alot of climbing of rocks. The bike trails are amazing and hilly at times. We also rented canoes and kayaks and spent day at Long Lake. Bar Harbor is beautiful to walk around. We took the boat tour but a lot of people got very seasick. Not me! I took an overkill of Dramamine beforehand, just in case. We tried several lobster shacks. I decided I prefer lobster rolls over plain lobster. And, we had a hands down winner on the best chowder but now I forgot the name of the place. Have fun planning!

Arcadia is great. If you are looking to see Mouse Arcadia is not the place. But the hiking and activities are great. Go for a hike then go down to the beach and go for a swim but be prepare to lose your testicals, man that water is cold. Old Orchard Beach is ok. As a comedian said at one of the shows welcome to Old Orchard Beach Canada.

I am looking at a trip to Old orchard beach for 5 days, then 5 in bar harbor then 2 back in old orchard beach. Is that enough at each area?

Depends on what you want to do. IIRC there isn't too much besides the beach at OOB, but It's not a bad place to take day trips from - Boston is about an hour south, the NH lakes region about an hour west, and Portland/Casco Bay about an hour north
