Casino Camping - How does that work?
... have never camped at a casino, but it's a definite possibility. I like the idea because most are located next to a major highway.
Do they have hook-ups?
How does the price compare with other more traditional campgrounds - KOA - for instance?
If they don't have a "campground", can you just park for the night?
... anything else I might be forgetting to ask?
Thanks in advance.

Casino camping is usually boondocking... some might have a dump station... but the cost is $0.00... Now some casinos do have RV parks attached but these charge and are not referred to as casino camping

Our experiences.....
Although not interested in the gambling end, we've 'boondocked' at Casino's before (while traveling and just needing a one night stay). A couple of times we actually hooked up to elec/water for a fee much lower than a public campground and way less expensive then a neighboring KOA. Hooking up was only because it was scorching hot and we needed the a/c for overnight sleeping. The places we overnighted at all had pavement with little or no grass throughout the rv parking/hookup areas

I've seen some casinos that do charge a nominal fee for overnight rv stays. Don't ask me which casino it was, 'cause I don't remember. But some do charge. Probably best to call first about their rv policies, just in case.
Now if you went inside, bought $100 dollars worth of chips, then asked... it might be free. Haha

Thanks, everybody, that's what I was looking for. I think SmokerBill's bottom line is right-on. I'm sure there are many folks who have paid $$$ for "free" parking.

I always go in and get a players card... and ask to make sure its OK to be there.. they appreciate that.. often when you get a players card it will include a discount in the restaurant so I go get a cheap meal.. I can walk past the "one arm bandits" with no problem.

Thanks, Seann, that's good advice. Letting them know you are there and spending a little at their business seems like common sense and courtesy. Good idea!

Here is a list of casino campgrounds and the costs and accommodations. I am sure it is not a complete list but it will give you an idea of what is out there. We used the list on our last cross country trip. We did do a few parking lot over nighters.

We camped at a casino c/g in Oregon for below market price and above market quality. You will not be disappointed. The c/g we were at was located on our route between Ketchum, Idaho (Sun Valley) and Hood River, Oregon.

We do this each year, we stay in Nov and make it our last trip of the year. It has grown to include us and 4 other couples we camp with. Where we stay they charge $15 a night which is a site wide enough for our trailer with slides out no problem. They give us a coupon book which more than covers the cost of the site each night. The site has power only but has a dump station and potable water. Some casinos are free some charge a small fee. If you stay in the parking lot they don't charge. When we go the rv sites are full so they don't seem to have an issue with the overflow. I would imagine if you camped when there are lots of open sites they might ask you to move over to the rv section. Each is different we have done it twice now and plan to do it next year as well. Great for off season camping.

We have stayed at the Mohegan Sun Casino in CT. No fee or hook ups, just transportation to the casino. The lot for RVs overlooks the river. I usually call and they email me a permit, or you can pick up your permit when you arrive. So just check out the web site for the casinos or call them to find out their rules.
