Chaco Canyon NM, here we come!

The bride and I are prepping for an 11 day trip to Chaco Canyon. It's been a busy summer for us and haven't been out since early June. Just the two of us (and the wiener-dog) and the excitement is building. We're planning two nights traveling each way which should make for a somewhat leisurely pace. This will be the first long trip with the new truck and looking forward to that too. Mr. Google-Map tells me it's about 2000mi round-trip. Out-bound we'll take I-10 to Ft. Stockton and turn north thru Roswell to Grants. The return trip will be via Amarillo and Ft. Worth where we will point South for the Houston area.

Your right poolbear - last time I was there it shook us and our Casita trailer to death. But we made it with no damage.....

It is a National Park and may or may not be open for business. It seems that the fine people that represent us still can't get along.

Got home Sat afternoon with a total of 2503 mi. Truck computer said we averaged 13.5mpg. Had an excellent time! Best stop (only overnight) was "Top of the Hill RV Park" just West of Boerne, TX - a beautiful view! We stayed at Lavaland RV Park in Grants NM for 6 nights and found if to be a pretty nice park - a little run down but I understand there is new management and is improving. Quite a few permanent residents but they were all tidy. On the way home we overnighted in the "A+ RV Park" in Alvord TX which was a very nice stop. We had a couple other overnights that weren't quite as nice.

Clutch, Yup, you are bang on! We waited a day too long to visit Chaco. After a couple of long-ish days on the road we visited some more local attractions and my gummit done shut down, so we didn't get to see it.
All my personal disappointment aside, I feel it's a sad statement that there are so many of our government employees now missing their paychecks because they're being used as pawns in a clearly partisan issue.
Sorry, rant over.

Even though we missed Chaco we had a great trip. The new truck pulled our little TT without breaking a sweat (thank you Henry!) and the 23B travelled the 2000 mi without a hiccup ( thank you Lloyd!).

Redhorse, it sounds like you still had an enjoyable trip. Now you can keep the canyon on your list.
