Disney's Fort Wilderness

Well we are back at Disney's Fort Wilderness.

Other than it being rather expensive, this resort has it all.

Weather should be great all week, lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s.

Its not often I wished I lived somewhere else...but I sure would like to camp @ Fort Wilderness sometime. We are actually taking the kids for our first trip to DW in a couple of weeks. But we will be running through airports with all the other crazies and holding up in a hotel wishing we had the TT, CA to Orlando is just to much a of a tow for the DW and kids holiday break from school.

We're flying in too. My daughter (4.5yrs old) won a trip. So we are off for 7 days to Disney...can't argue with free!

I'm just going through finalizing the dates, but it looks like mid to end of August for 2 weeks at Ft. Wilderness! Haven't stayed at Ft. Wilderness yet, really looking forward to it. Hey, is there much difference between the types of sites, Full Hookup, Preferred and Premium? Really wondering if the Preferred and Premium are worth the addl' charge?

A lot of the sites are ok, just remember Fort Wilderness was built in the 70s, has lots of trees and has no pull thrus.

We like the Preimum sites due to our 5th Wheel being 40 Ft long.

The Preimum sites are longer and wider for large RVs.

Also the Preimum and Preferred sites are closer to the Trading Post, Pool, Movies, Activities and the Lake.

Enjoy August in Disney, it is HOT and Humid, since our daughter is grown we can now come to Disney during the fall , winter and early spring.
Less crowded and much cooler !!!!

Go to this Forum, Fortfiends.net there is a lot of info about the Fort. There are also apps for both Android and I-Phones, "Sites at the Fort" it gives you size and pics of just about all the sites. Some of the full hookup sites are fairly large (1600,1700, 1800 & 1900), the tightest/smallest sites are the preferred, 100/200 non-pet loops 300 pet loop.

Rob, will you still be there in Jan? We arrive on the 14th.

I know this thread is about Fort Wilderness and RVing, but several folks have talked about going to WDW via the hectic airplane/airport route.
The last two times we've gone with our kids, we've taken the Amtrack. It was a blast. We got a family sleeper car (sleeps 2 adults & 2 kids). We went from Minneapolis to Chicago, Chicago to Wash DC (6 hour layover in DC, so we got to tour the Capitol, Library of Congress and a few Smithsonian museums). And then DC to Orlando. We spent 2 nights in the sleeper and enjoyed seeing the countryside and eating meals on board. If you are not in a hurry and don't want to pull your travel trailer all the way to Florida, this is a great way to travel and to have your kids experience train travel before all these passenger trains are gone. Next time, we'll take the City of New Orleans (the train Arlo Guthrie sang about) and get to Disney via Louisianna and across the southern Gulf states.

We just got back from out DW trip and stay at the Fort. Let me tell you that the Fort was the cleanest campground Ive ever seen. The bath houses were spotless and our site was well raked/cleaned awaiting our arrival. We ended up in the 1900 loop which was just fine for us, quiet and quick bike ride to the pool. I would love to do this trip again...just not anytime soon.
