I second the approval of Indian Lake SP in the UP near Manistique. It has some sites on the water, but all of them are pretty nice. We also liked Luddington, but be aware that it is quite large, and the campsites are kind of "cheek-by-jowl". If you are looking for a quiet private camping experience this is not the place.
Another possibility is Interlochen SP near Traverse City. It is also pretty crowded though, but nice facilities.

Problem with a lot of Michigan state parks is they are outdated they were made years ago when rigs were 20 ft . At Interlochen no sewer or water at site sites are two twenty amp and two thirty amp for four sites and priced like a full service campground

Another good one is the Platte River Campground up near Sleeping Bear Dunes.

OK, my daughter is going to be a Yooper in a few weeks so we'll be spending time there off and on. What's nearest to Escanaba that's decent, private or public. O.B. Fuller is the one we're considering.

I realy liked Barnes Park in Antim county (sp). It's right at the tip of Torch lake, but right on the bay. Only downside is it is a first come first serve park and electric only. But has many sites right on the water. Clean campground and not too far from sleeping bear dunes too. Found a lot of Petosky stones on the beach, but last June the water was still in the 40° range
I wonder how the lakes will be this year. Super cold February.

Here is a list of State Parks we have camped at, in no particular order of favorites. All have things we love and look for while camping.
Aloha SP
Hartwick Pines SP
Rifle River SP
Ludington SP
Brighton SP
Interlochen SP
Traverse City SP
Silver Lake SP
Pinckney SP
Waterloo Portage Lake SP
Waterloo Sugarloaf SP
Mitchell SP
Hayes SP
North Higgins Lake
Brimley SP
Tahquamenon Falls SP
Proud Lake SP
Straits SP
This year we will add Petoskey SP and hopefully Wildnerness SP to the list. We would camp at all of them again except for Hayes SP--very disappointing. IMO you can't go wrong camping at a Michigan state park. Happy Camping!!

There are now a handful of full hook up sites in some of the LP campgrounds. Hartwick Pines (Near Grayling) has a bunch of them and at this point is the farthest north state park campground with full hook up that I am aware of.
From what I have seen over the past several years, Michigan state park campgrounds are really working on updating the facilities. Many have new bath houses with private shower facilities and are always well taken care of. Seems that they are working on making some of the sites at each state park "big Rig" friendly, but I haven't had a problem getting our 31' in as long as I reserve a 25' site or bigger

I used to live in Gladstone and work in Esky.
Nice campground on Lake Michigan is Little Bay de Noc, a USFS campground, but it is on the other side of the bay, so you have to drive through Rapid River unless you just boat across the bay. A bit of a drive. If I remember, there are some private campgrounds closer to Esky, but it has been 30 years since I lived there.
