I am planning to go summer 2016. As a kid I stayed in the unit rentals before they converted them to log cabin look alikes. It was a great experience for me and I am looking forward to getting back on property.

I took the family through the grounds last trip and have a few loops picked out, but remember waiting for the internal bus connections after a long day at the park as the worst part!
i used an off property company, definitely cheaper but the cart was a little beat up, but then again i was not easy on it either

just make sure you have a 2in ball and your good

So excited just got our trip booked for November, staying at Fort Wilderness. Now we just need to get our registrations for the Walt Disney World Wine and Dine Half Marathon.

A cart is fun, but you really don't need one. If you have bicycles you can get around just as easy and even access some place where carts can't go. One area is the bike/walking path that goes from the FORT to Wilderness Lodge. It is a beautiful area and many people have gotten up close and personal with some of the deer in the area. There are bike racks at the Marina, the pool and at the bus stop up front where you can lock them up. There is also one at Wilderness Lodge by the pool located next to the villas.

If no bikes the internal buses are normally very consistant as well. You many have an issue during peak times, but that is a rarity.

As carey965 said the rentals with the outside vendors is usually not a problem. I have read many of the "horror stories" and from what I have learned over the years staying at the FORT and from the many people who use outside vendor at least 99% are exagerations.

We're Ft. Wilderness veterans and the DW is a wiz at getting great deals for us. Last year, the DW and I flew down there and used Disneys' Bus to pick us up and deliver us to the Fort. My daughter, SIL, and grandson camped at the CG, as they pulled their TT. We were fortunate when we booked because our cabin was backed to to the loop where they were camping! So the kids could walk from our site to theirs! We did rent one of the Forts' carts, the 7 year old enjoyed sitting on Papaws lap and "drive" it!

We make this trip almost every year. However, this year will be different as we are planning a trip out west to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons!

Question:If someone is staying at the Fort in a Rental RV not the cabins, but paying for the stay is the DTransfer from MCO available? Anyone know or done this? May have another family or 2 renting and RV, but one is considering flying due to distance and time allowed from work.

Anyone staying at the FORT whether in a campsite or in the cabins can use the MAGICAL EXPRESS from and to the airport. The fact that they are using a rental RV is secondary information. The name of those flying in must be on one of the reservations, whether their own or a shared reservation.

Once they have the campground reservation #, airline and flight #'s they can call MAGICAL EXPRESS 866-599-0951 and make the bus reservations.

IIRC they can also plan ahead and have the fact they are flying in added to the campground reservtaion when they make it and then add the flight info later also.

I really appreciate all of this information as we are all driving down in October. Guess I better step it up for my reservations.

YES! Do that TODAY!

Then, especially if it is your first trip, search out this site for info and then search out other sites dedicated to Disney. There is a lot to know about WDW in order to get the best bang for your buck.

I made my reservations yesterday to be sure I had a spot for the period I'm looking to go down. I checked with a reservationist and you can cancel up to 5 days before your arrival date with no penalty.

We are here at fort wilderness right now, drove down from Oklahoma. . We have one more day and then out on friday. I really love the campground and I'm glad we splurged and rented a golf cart. Originally we were supposed to go in march but my 12 year old son was diagnosed with diabetes right before our trip and then I had issues with my old truck. Now son is doing great and on insulin and I have a new truck. So glad we finally made this trip!

Have a great time while you're there! We stayed for two weeks in February for the third time and, as always, did not want to leave. Love that place. One of our favorite campgrounds. We rented a golf cart for a couple of days while my parents stayed with us--worth the $ so they could easily and comfortably get around.
