Glacier National Park campgrounds

We are planning an early September trip to Glacier NP. We enjoy staying in the park with our 28.5 Eagle HT. Any suggestions on which campground would be better for us getting / fitting in. We probably will head out after Labor Day so I think by that time they don’t take reservations. Any experience out there with difficulty getting a campsite?

Thank you in advance for suggestions....I know it’s early to plan but we like to at least have a game plan !

I believe you are too big to stay in the park. If I remember correctly, the length limit is 20'

We stayed at St Mary KOA in East Glacier. It's just outside of the park.

You can camp at Apgar. Max length 40 feet. First come first served
It is on the busy side of the park and probably will fill up in the morning early.

Also Fish Creek Does take reservations. Max length 35 feet. All on the west side. '

St Marys on the east side. You will have to pick which side before entering the park. You cannot use Going to the Sun Road with your RV

There are some others

I’ve camped at Apgar, my trailer is 30 ft, plenty of sites that will accommodate your trailer, however it is first come first serve, we camped in early August and ended up staying the first night in a rest area, allowed us to get in early to find a spot, but it filled up really quick, camp rangers were a big help in telling us where the vacant sites were. Well worth the challenge!

Thank you for responding. I will definitely be looking at Apgar to camp! There is something extra special being in the park. Dry camping takes a little more prep but well worth it. Glad we can find a place. We like to stay 7 - 10 days. Just wonder...what where your avg temperatures during the day. We bring our small dog and she need to be comfortable in our camper when we are gone exploring.

Thank you!

in the low 70's to freezing and snow. Apgar is pretty low in elevation relative to other places in Glacier so early mornings might be frosty.
There is one trail out of Apgar that is dog friendly. otherwise they are not allowed but there is no rule against leaving your pup in your trailer and the temps ought to be fine.

I know you are looking to stay within the park, but should that not pan out, the West Glacier KOA is excellent. KOAs aren’t typically our first choice, but this is one of the nicest parks we’ve stayed in. We camped there five days last year — just a few minutes from the park entrance. Great amenities, super clean, even an ice cream shop and cafe with delicious rib eyes.

Thank you Kim. I was hoping it would be cooler temperatures like when we were in Rocky Mountain National Park . I hate being hot and would much rather need heat when dry camping and no air except a battery operated fan. Our pup is great in the camper as long as I don’t have to worry about it getting hot. It will be nice to have a trail to take her on besides the campground

You also might want to look at Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone. Clean, wide streets, quiet, and right outside the park.
