The difference we found between east and west was that the east side seemed a lot more peaceful (some might call it boring - we like boring). St. Mary East Glacier KOA was very nice. We stayed there for several days. There were very few trees; but because of that, the view of the hills was nice. It was the perfect location to reach the East Visitor Center and shuttle, which is the way to go in our opinion, across Going to the Sun. That is a really scary drive; but in the shuttle you can stop at many places along the way and sightsee as you ride. We didn't stay on the west side but did drive there to see it - around, not across Going to the Sun. it seemed very busy with a lot more people and businesses/hotels/restaurants. It was a pretty area. The east and west side are really quite a contrast! Maybe someone has stayed at both and has an opinion.
