great week of camping
My wife Peggy and I just returned from a week of camping at George L. Smith State Park. All of the state parks in Georgia have hiking trails, but this park has three canoe/kayak trails in its 412-acre pond. The pond is full of cypress trees and the trails take you deep into them. Peggy calls it "kayak pinball" because some places were challenging to get through! At times you were using trees to bump off of in order to move forward. Campground is only 26 sites, most right on the water. Below are some photos from our site on the pond and out kayaking among the trees. The water has a deep coffee color due to the tannic acid from the trees. We had a fantastic time, despite some seasonal thunderstorms. Great place to spend some down time.
