heading down to florida need advice on where to stop

ok so my dog and i are heading from toronto area and i want to venture through DC because i have never been there and was thinking about staying in around richmond in my trailer is there any good spots to stay down there that would be open, i dont even mind staying at a walmart if you guys know of any good safe ones to stay at

also the other issue is that i am a trans women and i dont know where is a good safe place to be as well

The only place we have stayed anywhere near Richmond VA is the KOA in Williamsburg. As far as it being a safe place, I have never felt unsafe anywhere I have camped.
