High Falls GA state park

This is not so much a review, as a cautionary tale..

We routinely pick an overnight stop in Georgia, on our annual trip to the Smokies. We stopped at High Falls last year, pretty much picking it at random. It was "just ok", but we put that down to last minute booking (site was very exposed and seriously sloping, but, for a sleepover, you deal with it)

This year, we booked well ahead, so that we could pick a better spot. We called them, and they told us "Reserve America will want you to book a minimum of two nights, but, when you get here, just tell them you're only staying one night and they'll adjust it, don't worry"

We got there and were told that, no, this wasn't true, if you book in advance, you have to pay for at least two nights * Oh, and by the way, if you want to bring your car in, that's another $5. (Rather tricky to take the trailer in, without the TV)
This is, apparently, a State policy in GA, now, but I object to being misinformed at the time of booking. We did try to point this out, but the attitude from the office staff was, in effect, "take it or leave it"

We did get a level pitch, probably the last spot in the park, it was like camping in a parking lot. The camp hosts were still driving around, trying to squeeze in another popup , well after dark.

If anyone can recommend a good overnight spot in the same kind of area, we'd be interested to hear of it.

(* in fairness, Reserve America do say that one night bookings may be available if you wait until less than 30 days out)

I believe that there is a KOA just south of there on 75. Forsyth KOA I believe it is called. I haven't stayed there, but have researched campgrounds in the area. In the last few years, we have started using KOA's almost exclusively for overnight stops. They may be a little more expensive than some of the state parks, but we appreciate the convenience.

Forum member Woodworker lives about an hour north of that area. You may want to contact him for some additional ideas.

Never stayed here because I use to live about 15 minutes away. Maybe 1/2 hour north of High Falls.
