Nope. Campgrounds have vacancies
Maybe because its because of our quarantine requirements.

In NE IL and SE WI it's hard to get a weekend spot without reservations quite some time in advance. It's been like that that for the last several years. Unless you have a small rig that will fit in any site, and even then it can be a challenge. I often have good luck the weekend before or after a holiday weekend.

I agree it's been pretty tight for a few years now. There are of course some places that are worse than others, and times that are better/worse. But overall, we've noticed more difficulty getting reservations at some of our favorite places.

Heck, we just returned from a place that we stayed at the same time last year and were one of just a handful of campers. This time, it was at least twice as crowded as last year around the same time. And this was during the week. And it showed no signs of slowing down; this park offers late checkout if no one is expected in your site. The people we were with couldn't get late checkout because their site was booked.

That couple also fishes at the coast quite often and they commented at how difficult that had become lately too. Places they used to launch their boat you could find a place to park your truck/trailer are now packed with trucks/trailers parked for quite a way down the adjacent roads.

I miss the days when you could just roll up to a place and likely have a spot. Not that I travel that way any more, but it was nice when it happened. And I miss the times when parks weren't packed full all the time. When you could go during the week and a place might be at 50% capacity. So you could relax some and have a little space.

I would have said "no" until this last trip. We went down to Southern CA. I tried for 3 days to find a place to stay between Anaheim and Costa Mesa. Never had any problems before. We couldn't find any place to stay and ended up staying in San Dimas. We also tried to find a place in Morro Bay and could not locate one vacancy. At San Dimas we found many people "camping" as they now can work from anywhere. But, we traveled up 395 from LA to Reno and had no problem in that area.

For sure it's getting more difficult. This time of year we would just pick a good weather weekend and go to our favorite state parks on a whim. This Fall they have stayed booked or nearly so. You have to book well ahead to get the decent sites.
