We visited jim beam about 15 years ago. The tour wasn't much to speak of, but I did get a bottle of 127 proof small batch bourbon. That was memorable.
A few miles south of ft knox we stopped at a military museum. My favorite item there was the sadam statue head that was yanked down by our boys in a tank and paraded around on the world news outlets.
We also stopped at the louisville slugger factory. It was smaller than we expectec, and we saw bats in bins headed for well known " sluggers".

About 24 years ago we visited Buffalo Trace during Christmas break and stayed at the Kentucky Horse Park. Then about 10 years ago, we, as part of a group, visited the trail several years ago on Memorial Day Weekend. Make sure you have a DD! At Jim Beam, we did a tour and then each participant was given a "card" for 3 samples. We also visited Heaven Hill where we were able to get a "private" showing. Woodford Reserve was closed. We stayed at one of the KOAs outside of Louisville. Very cramped campground.

We have talked about going back and trying to do the entire trail.

Our Own Version

We are booked in late October for 4 nights at Fort Boonesboro State Park. This state park is located just south of Lexington, right off interstate 75, I've never stayed there so don't know much about it other than is is on the Kentucky River. From that location we are about 35mins from Town Branch distillery in Lexington and 50 mins from the several distilleries around the south Versailles area, Woodford, Four Roses, Wild Turkey. So we're not following any specific "trail" or "tour", just freelancing our journey. Several smaller distilleries right in the Lexington area too.

In June 2019 we visited the Bourbon Trail. We stayed at White Acres Campground in Bardstown, Ky. It is a no frills full hookup campground near several distilleries. Sites were spacious and shady. It's a little unusual in that adjacent sites are back to back. That worked for us because we were able to face the friends we were camping with.

We spent a day visiting distilleries near Bardstown, a day in and around Louisville, and a day east and north of Bardstown. Our favorites were Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, Makers Mark, and Bulliet.

If you like bourbon, this is a must trip. There's beautiful scenery traveling between distilleries, a lot of history, and of course, the tours/tastings!

That's a nice park. Fort Boonesboro is a cool historic site to visit if you want something else to do while you are there. The historic site has a separate entrance from the campground a little to the west on the main highway. It is one of the earliest settlements in Kentucky.

Elkhorn campground near Frankfort is nice for hitting the ones in that area. We did Glenn Creek distillery tour it was fun. COVID had everything else shutdown.
