Kerrville-Schreiner Park, Kerrville, TX

We spent last night there. It's a beautiful park jus to the South of Kerrville, TX. We stayed in the Pecan Loop with pull-thru 30 amp full hookups and LOTS of shade, and spacious spots. Full hookup 50 amp spots are available as are cabins and tent sites. The park is broken in two parts, the river side and the hill side, we didn't get to see the hill side of the park. The Guadalupe River is wide and deep here, so there's plenty of opportunity for water activities including swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking... Kayaks are available for rent on site. The hill side of the park has what looks like an extensive network of hiking/biking trails. We didn't get to see all that much of the park on this trip (DW started feeling bad, so we headed back home) but we'll be back for sure.

One of the best parts? $26/night. Also, they have a riverside amphitheater where they play family-friendly movies during the summer. Friday was the last night of the season and they played Tarzan. We were in bed shortly after the movie started, so we didn't get to see any.

One downside of the Pecan Loop is that it's really close to the road, so you get some road noise. Last night something drove by that sounded like a C130 landing!

I agree with rustic eagle , that all the campgrounds in texas are nice . Though i live in central part, i am partial to the campgrounds in east texas, beautiful tree cover and somewhat cooler.

I agree with all of the above including Kellys tag line...

We are in North Dallas, so we do more of the Possum Kingdom Lake, Dinosaur Valley, Mineral Wells and Lake Ray Roberts state parks...

Those are the places where my wife cut her teeth, her family had a lake house on Possum Kingdom for years.

I grew up camping all over the state, mostly in East Texas piney woods; Fishing and water skiing Lake Livingston, Sam Rayburn, the occasional jaunt over to Toledo Bend. Backpacking all the usual suspects including Enchanted Rock, Palo Duro, Big Bend, Lost Maples, canoed the Frio and Guadalupe, fished the coast from Mustang Island.

We have a truly beautiful state with a great parks program, and I'm so glad I've been lucky enough to experience this great land! And I can't wait to share it with my son!

I've recently spent some of my winter months camping mainly in the Hill Country area (Kerrville/Ingram).

Dinosaur Valley SP (Glen Rose area) was mentioned in an earlier post, which is one SP that I would enjoy camping at again. Very nice sites and many with different degrees of shade......., and some great trails!

Heading back to Kerrville/Ingram again this winter

Bob

Headed to Purtis Creek State Park for the Labor Day Weekend. Lake Purtis Creek is a beautiful little lake. No big boat traffic, maximum speed is 5 mph. The camping sites are all shaded. I just wish it were a little cooler. The wife and I just bought us a couple of kayaks and if all goes well, we will be paddling around having a good time!
Next month, Galveston State Park! Can't wait!
