Key West Campground
Any recommendation for a campground near Key West. Traveling with two young children, so amenities for their entertainment is important.

State parks down there seem to be impossible to get. I've been trying "long key" park every day with no luck. There is fiesta key by Islamorada. Not as nice as the state parks (or as cheap) but at least you could probably get in.

You may want to spend a night or two near Key West and get that segment of the trip out of the way. After that move to a CG that is farther up the keys for the remainder of your trip. Kids will love the roosters walking around Key West (major issue with the locals)... we had one sitting on a stand behind me while we were eating.. they do not bother you.
There is not much for kids to do at the state park CG's, so you may want to look into the private ones, they are more expensive.
We stayed at Curry Hammock state park last December for a week. 30 feet to the Atlantic ocean. This December we have a week at John Pennekamp Coral reef state park in the upper keys.
You just need to keep trying each morning as the updated databases become available at 08:00:01 AM, per the Reserve America and one of the other website's managers. We always tried at 12:00AM with no luck.
People are always cancelling reservations, that is how we got ours.
Good Luck,
Don

When you get to the Keys look for the narrowest bridge connecting the Keys and pull over after you cross it (some have an area you can park). Take the kids out and have them throw a stone (may have to bring your own) from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. Not many people/kids can say that they have done that, ahhh but I can.
That and a buck and a half will get me a cup of coffee.

Yow! We paid less than that at WDW. No ocean view but there was that mouse.

Boyds was features on RV today years back and looked pretty nice. I think if I were to camp there I'd have to have a water front site. We will make it there one day..

So we stayed at Boyd's. Really liked it. It was close to key west to take a cab into town in the evening. Sites were a little tight but still private with bushes separating the sites. My neighbors were also really nice. Park staff were super nice and kept the place tidy.

Must have been down there at the same time with my son. I stayed on the mainland in Homestead for 39 a night. Drove to Key Largo two days for diving and spent one day at Key West. THAT was a long drive, but the scenic drive was part of our trip. I couldn't find a campground for a week in the keys. Of course driving through I saw all the campgrounds and most of them only half full. Loved Key West and I think next time if the wife goes we will be staying closer to Key West as that's more her style. She doesnt dive and the everglades didn't interest her. That's why she stayed home. I'll keep Boyds in mind as the diving is awesome and we will be back!
