Koa Virginia Beach

We are going to Virginia Beach KOA for 5 days starting next week. We have never used this campground. Has anyone stayed at this KOA? If so please let me know how your stay was.

Drove through one time to check it out. Not impressed.

We just contacted KOA and notified them of a number of their campgrounds throughout the Midwest that can be classified as dumps at best. We plan to use the built up points and then terminate the membership. KOA now sucks.

We've had better luck, I guess. KOA has just opened a beautiful new rv resort in Ft. Pierce, Fl. It's beautiful, well designed and the management people are awesome.

This is not good news for us. We are going to be at a dog show and this was the closest campground.

In 5 years as a KOA member we have never stayed in a KOA dump. Not saying there aren’t any we just never stayed in one. Only complaint is a rowdy group of college students next to us parting well into early morning at one KOA campground. Calls to the 24 hour number were never returned but they were asked to leave at 7 the next morning. We enjoyed watching them woke up early and made to pack up and leave hung over.

They have been buying up cg's that we have frequented often so we joined for the discount. They have made great improvements to the facilities and we are satisfied.
We dropped our long time membership in PassPort America.

In the 80’S we used Woodalls book to find campgrounds. There was no cell phones at that time. We looked for 5 star campground. Wow what a horrible experience some turned out to be. It was hit and miss. You got information around a campfire from campers. After that when KOA came around it made things much better. I will pay more for the site knowing it is safe. The KOA in West Palm Beach was gated and had someone on an art riding around the campground. Tight spots but clean and quiet. No party’s and fireworks!

Actually they don't buy, the CG owner has to pay KOA for the franchise. KOA gets 10% of all site fees for Royalties and Advertising.

Initial Franchise Fee: $30,000 ... Term of Franchise Agreement: 5 Years ... *KOA franchise fees are based solely on site registration revenue.

Annual Administrative Fee: $1,500
Royalty Fee: 8%* of camping registration revenue
Advertising Fee: 2%* of camping registration revenue
Term of Franchise Agreement: 5 Years
Franchise Training: 5 days during KOA University and ongoing

We're in the Virginia Beach KOA right now. Checked in Sunday, with plans to stay thru at least Sat. So far it's been a good stay, although we've been out running around most of the time.

That's good to know. This one even has the traditional A frame bldg. because it was originally a KOA back in the 80's. Since we have been going there, it went from virtually abandoned and operating on a honor system, to several private owners then a group of retirees from up north bought the facility and fixed it up to KOA standards. This particular one is called Newberry/ I-26/Sumter NF KOA. It is not really a destination park but is always busy with overnight stays.

Newberry is a nice park. It is one that we use as an overnight stop during our travels to the Midwest.

We stayed there in 2016. We have stayed at worse KOA's. It was expensive but given it is a tourist town, to be expected. There were other campgrounds around the area.

We are at VBKOA now. We like it . Clean, nice dog park, level site and very busy.
We canít ask for more. The employees are very nice. This is quiet. The water is good. Easy to hook up water electric and stinky slinky.
Would we come back? yes I will upload photos when we get home.

We stayed here a couple of years back. We thought it was a good KOA. Nice pool lots of outdoor activities. There was a zipline across the road and a nice dog park a few minutes away. Shuttle to beach ($$).

Holiday is better

VA beach KOA isnít bad at all But the holiday trav-l-park right across the street is so much better. Bigger sites, 3 pools, 1 acre dog park, arcade, diner and lots to do. I highly recommend you pop in to check it out while your here. We will only stay at the KOA if holiday I had no vacancy.

If you are military, there is a great campground at Dam Neck. Hard to get a spot but we've stayed at Ft. Story and Little Creek Navy Base. There is also a campground at Oceana NAS but it is gated and we've never gone into it. If not military, there are also campgrounds further down south towards Sandbridge and beyond.
