We are currently staying at the Lake Powhatan Recreation Area just outside of Asheville NC in the Blue Ridge Mtns. It is part of the National Park Service (Happy 100th) and operated by the Cradle of Forestry which does a great job running several facilities in the southeast.
It has 4 loops with private wooded sites, a small lake and beach, 40 miles of hiking and biking trails.
It is located at milepost 393 on the Blue Ridge Parkway and adjacent to the NC Arboretum which is a MUST SEE if in the area.
