Looking for a campground in South West Michigan

Hello All, I am in search of a nice campground in South West Michigan (Holland area and south) fairly close to Lake Michigan. Preferably with full hookup, family friendly nice big sites, also that will welcome my 9 yo son and 1 yo lab beagle mix (who hates water). I checked most state parks and they were booked for the time we were looking at in August.

Thanks in advance of any recommendations. Also if I PM'ed you thanks for the places you recommended.

There's a private, full-service campground right on Lake Macatawa called Oak Grove Resort Campgrounds. I've never been there, so don't know what it's like, but the rates seem pretty reasonable. You can check out their website at oakgroveresort.com. Might be worth a look-see. If all else fails, you might try Ionia State Recreation Area, near Ionia. It would be about 1-1/2 hours east of Holland, but they have a nice smallish lake, a very nice beach, and they appear to have some availability in August. I've camped there a couple of times, and go there fishing quite often.

Thanks for responding Brownie, my boss changed her mind on our vacation and I found a spot at Van Buren State park for our stay. Hopefully we enjoy our stay there. What can you tell me about this passport that I need to buy?

The passport is just another name for the daily/annual pass that state parks require you to have. For non- residents it is $9/day our $31/year. More info... http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7...4654--,00.html

The passport is simply the daily/annual pass that you need for using the state park. This is on addition to your camping fee s. Non- resident is $9/day or $31/year. These can be purchased at the state park.
