Mammouth Cave, Kentucky

Does anyone have campground suggestions (pros and cons) in the area of Mammouth Cave?

We stayed at Cave Country RV last June (2015) when we went to Mammoth Cave. Very nice park and close to the caves. I recommend checking this place out!!

We stayed at the jellystone campground. It was nice. Close to the caves also, bathrooms were clean. They were in the process of making a new line of sites along the back of their grounds witch looked good. Plenty for kids to.do at the campground as well.

Why no consideration of the NP CG? Hookups, nice CG, and close to the caves since its in the park. Lots to do like hiking etc. If a senior with a pass, its half price too.

Does the park have full hook ups? My son and his family are going and they have two small kids. Thus, they fill up a black tank pretty quickly.

I only live about 30 min. from Mammoth Cave. No hook ups in the NP. With small children Jellystone would be the top choice. Lots of family friendly activities at Jellystone during the summer. CG is older but well maintained.

We plan on staying 8 days. Since you are from the area, are there other children and adult activities within reasonable driving distance of the caves?

Yes. Just down the road at I-65 there are other attractions like a dinosaur village. Bowling Green is only a few miles south on I-65 where the Corvette museum and other attractions are. North on I-65 is Hogenville is Lincoln Birthplace. Bowling Green has a website listing their activities.

We stayed at jellystone about 10 years ago and really enjoyed it. The caves are awesome too. The kids found plenty to do and now that we're empty nesters the DW and I plan to go back.

We stayed at the Nilon River, Wax Campground. It's maintained by the ACoE, and it is nice. We were tent camping back then, but Recreation.gov shows full hookups available. It was 20 minutes or so to the park, but the price is right and there is more room than a typical commercial Park.

Jelly stone would prob be your best bet since its pretty close by. We hotel-ed it when we stopped through but did scope out the CG an park for possible future RV travels. Great cave to explore though!
