Mayberry campground

Heading to Mayberry campground next week. Anyone been there? The Andy Griffith museum has been on my list for a while. Looking forward to it.

Whenever we go to Mount Airy we always stay at Greystone RV Park in Pinnacle, NC which is about 20 miles south of Mount Airy. It's a small park with approx 15 sites. All campsites have a great view of the sunset over Pilot Mountain. We've stayed there about 3 times in the last 5 years.

Here are a couple of images from our first trip to the area around Pilot Mountain. There are numerous Vineyards in the Yadkin valley so if that of interest it is worth a day on the schedule to take a drive through the area.

I stayed at the Mayberry Campground last year for two nights while visiting the local attractions. I can recommend it. It was nice and well kept.

Awesome! Thanks for the map, pictures and info. This is going to be a quick trip with just me and the wife. Next time I'll bring the kids and do some hiking on the trails around pilot mountain, and check out the Greystone campground. The wife is due with our third child in May so we won't be doing any trails this time. Thank you all for the replies!

We have stayed at Mayberry CG many times. Check on the history of the Siamese twins that lived in the area. Benny the owner is a distant relative of them. Get a tour of the big house on the property if you can.

Many things to do and see in the area. Mabry Mill on the parkway, Pilot mountain and much nostalgia in Mt Airy.

WOW. I had no idea this campground and sites existed. I will have to plan a trip out there to see the sculpture of Andy and Opie as well as Floyd's Barbershop.

Noted. Great pictures. The church next door sells hotdogs on Fridays, we always joke about the kerosene weiners!

Mayberry Campground

Always enjoy going to My Airy, and Mayberry is a nice campground. But it's not what I'd call a destination campground - no pool, limited stuff for kids although they do have a small playground. It's all gravel. We've never had anything to gripe about at Mayberry. Main thing - it's very convenient to Mt Airy. Make sure you go see the granite quarry - one of the largest in the world.

WE stayed there a couple of years ago. Quiet and clean and the staff that we met were very friendly. Interesting history of the home on that land too. We planned to stay again 2 weeks ago but it was early in the day and we wanted to get much further north as a storm was coming in to S Ontario 3 days later so went on to Camp Creek SP in WVa. Also a great place to camp.

We have stayed at Mayberry once. It is a nice, clean campground and well run. It is next to the highway so request a site closer to the office. We stayed mid-campground and you could hear traffic during the night. Also, they have limited showers for the number of sites they have. Area is interesting with a variety of sites to see--view from the top of Mt Pilot was the highlight for us.

Yep,it was perfect for just the wife and me. A lot different then staying in a state park like we normally do. It was a clean and well looked after campground ,very quiet, except for the faint hwy noise which I didn't mind at all. We saw lots of neat stuff and ate at a great Japanese restaurant downtown. Kazoku. So freaking good. My wife enjoyed bargain hunting and quite time away from the kids was a nice little bonus. Just wish we could have stayed longer but I'm going back and taking the kids up pilot mountain oone of these days. thanks everyone for the suggestions..

Mayberry

I lived in Mount Airey in the early 60s before all the tourists stuff. Little trivia, they have the largest open granite quarry in the world. The rock is also Stone Mountain in GA. If you go there visit Old Salem in Winston Salem. Also Reynolda House. Home of RJ Reynolds
