Michigan Campfire Bans due to Forest Fire

Due to the forest fire in the UP near Newberry, the Tahquamanum Falls SP is closed till further notice and many of the forest campgrounds are also closed

49 counties in the state, upper and lower peninsula, also have bans on open fires. This does not include campgrounds, private or state, that have fire pits with metal or concrete perimeters. Gas fired cooking units are also not included. Outdoor smoking on all trails is forbidden.

The Michigan Campers and Campgrounds Group will be kept up to date.

I sure hope the fire leaves the Newberry water tower alone. It has my name on it.

The fire is north of the city of Newberry so your artwork is probably safe for now. We'll be back in that area in August for a waterfall tour so I'll look for it.
