Michigan Campgrounds

Hi All. My wife and I want to explore Michigan next summer and we were looking for some recommendations for campgrounds and for sites to see. The only area we know now that we want to explore is Mackinac Island. We normally stay at campgrounds with full hookups. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

We stayed at Castle Rock a few years back and snagged a waterfront site. The waves all night were soothing but the wind off the water was cold. Enough time things could have changed but was nice then.

Thanks Roger. Where exactly is Castle Rock? I can't seem to find it.

Excuse me for butting in, but Castle Rock is on the UP and north of St Ignace on I-75. We stayed at Castle Rock Lakefront Mackinac Trail Campground which was OK...full hook ups and along the lake. Bugs are terrible in July.

hi jlawley, we are from montréal canada, and in 2015 we where traveling in usa. we stay at a fairground camping, with full hook up , in dearborn, south of detroit, because we have a couples of days to past before living usa, and entering in ontario by windsor. the campground was ok. but the visit of the red tour on henry ford land was the most beautiful tour ever we did. the henry ford musuem, and the tour of the final assembly building of the ford f-150 was just amazing.make sure you have enough days to visit all.

Mackinac Mill Creek. A wide variety of site types, and a great view of the bridge at night when illuminated.

White River RV Park & Campground in Montague (just north of Muskegon) is nice. Decent sized sites, most fairly well shaded. Close to Lake Michigan and canoeing.

As pc35 mentioned, the Wayne County Fairgrounds is close to Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum. It's just a field with full hookups but is reasonably priced.

If you don't mind staying at an electric only site (fresh water and dump station onsite), I'd recommend Michigan State Parks:

https://www2.dnr.state.mi.us/parksan...t.aspx#map-tab

In the UP, I recommend Tahquamenon Falls State Park, Muskallonge Lake State Park, and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park - Union Bay Campground.

In the LP, most of the State Parks along Lake Michigan and Lake Huron are nice.

We stayed at the KOA in St. Ignace on U.S. 2 just west of town when we visited Mackinac this summer. It was a fine park. No lave views, but we could find a site. The other parks were all full when we reserved the site in February for a July trip. It worked for us as we came up the Wisconsin side of the lake and we didn't have to tow across the bridge.

Thank you to all that replied. You've given me a lot to consider when we start making our plans. I appreciate you taking your time to share your experiences with me. Maybe we'll run into some of you next summer. Take care.

Jeff
