Moab Utah

We are camping in Moab mid-July (I know... Hot!), and looking for some tips for hiking necessities, must see attractions and places, and any other helpful information for a first time visitor. We will be there 1 week and are conscience of the need to do things early and late in the days, but appreciate any guidance from veterans. Staying at the Portal.

Many things to see around Moab and one of my favorite parks. I have stunning photos all over my house taken in Arches, Canyonlands NP(2 sections), Dead Horse Pt SP, Drive through Castle Valley(Hwy 128), lots of sunrise and sunset photo ops in Arches. It's a great way to spend a week. The one not to miss is sunset at Delicate Arch.Take your camera and a bottle of water. It's .9 of a mile round trip and a moderate hike. The sandstone turns red at sunrise and sunset and you have to work at not taking home some great photos.
There is a French guy named Laurent Martres' who has a series of photography guides on the SW and one of them covers the Moab area extensively. Even if you are not a photographer, it's a great sight-seeing guide. If you are a photo nut, then it is priceless.

I can spend a week just walking through Arches .... One of my favorite parks in Utah...l

Any updates on campgrounds around Moab?....Heading there in oct. Looking for some nice secluded campgrounds with at least water. Electric would be nice as well......Hey Cap. how did you like the portal?

We'll also be there in Oct arriving on the 26th. We're staying at the Spanish Trail RV Park. This will be our first visit there.

yes, we made reservations, $39.60/night with Good Sam discount

Sand flats campground is $10 bucks a night, but no utilities. However, depending on which loop you camp in, it can be pretty secluded. Water and dump stations are in town. I camped in Loop A last time I was there, and had pretty good cellphone access. It's really close to the Slickrock trail.

Arches National Park and Canyonlands NP have camping also.
