Nashville

We are heading to Pigeon Forge around July 4th. Stopping in Memphis and Nashville on our way. Probably staying the night in Chattanooga on our way back. Any ideas on Nashville, PF, and Chatt campgrounds? Open areas, as woodsy and private as possible. Even state parks would be great.

Thanks for your help

If your traveling around the 4th, it's going to be whatever is available. Most of the campgrounds I know (out west) are already sold out for the weeks around the 4th. Good Luck.

Not Nashville North KOA. We were just overnighting but the next units were jammed in and the picnic tables are built on rickety splintered wood platforms
Like most KOA s I've seen it backs up to an interstate

We just stayed at Seven Points COE campground, about 30 miles from Nashville, and loved it. We were also at Camp LeConte in Gatlinburg and it was a good campground. It was a bit tight, but then all campgrounds in that area are tight. Stay away from the Pigeon Forge KOA - from what I could tell driving by, the sites were so tight you'd have a hard time opening your awning without hitting your neighbor

In Chattanooga check out Harrison Bay SP- haven't been there yet but we are booked for later in July. Local friends had great things to say about it as a campground, and from the looks of it has lots of trees and good separation between sites.

We camped at Montgomery Bell SP, close to Nashville. Good luck with the search

In Pigeon Forge area check out River Plantation or Riveredge. Another that isn't far out of PF is Anchor Down overlooking the beautiful Douglas Lake.

The only thing I liked about the KOA in Nashville was it's proximity to downtown/opryland. If you're going to Nashville to take in the city vs sitting around the campsite then all three (KOA, Yogi Bear and Three Rivers) that are right next to each other are an easy drive to all the attractions - even during rush hour.
But they are typical "urban" campgrounds. Close site, pools, tons of kids.

I've also heard great things about Harrison Bay near Chattanooga.
We also LOVE Cloudland Canyon State park - which is actually in Georgia on the top of the mountain ridge that "ends" at Rock City in Chattanooga. But the climb up the side of that mountain to the park is not for the 'under powered'.

We really like the Jellystone RV Park, in Nashville, Close to Opry Mills, Grand old Opry and lots of other stuff. Plus they take Passport America.

We stayed at the Nashville North KOA last year, nice clean park, but you are packed in like sardines. Gonna try the other KOA in Nashville next year.

We stayed at the Chattanooga West KOA a few years ago and it was nice. But sites were pretty close together.
