Nevada Travel Recommendations

Starting to pull together info for a 2019 August/September west coast trip.

My present routing through Nevada will be I-80 east out of California, continuing I-80 east through the entire state of Nevada........, but considering possible route deviations along the way for "must see" locations.

Would appreciate any recommended Nevada "must see" locations..., and National, State, or private Campground recommendations along the way. I anticipate some boondocking and camping w/hook-ups along the way.

I've also created a couple separate JOF threads for other States that I will be traveling through.

Thanks in advance

Bob

Following.

I live in Vegas and haven't spent anytime up north but might in the future. It should be a bit cooler there that time of year, but still warm I would expect. Cool to me is now anything under 100 fyi. Stay away from southern Nevada that time of year unless you love feeling like you are on fire. Vegas is still in the 100's up until the week of Halloween usually.

Last estimate I seen was Nevada was 86 percent owned by the federal government and most of that land you can't access. Expect to look at a ton of sagebrush.

Right as you cross the border with Utah / Nevada, you will find one of the small towns that are surviving by the casino's. The casinos are pretty easy on RV's parking(camping discreetly) in their parking lots, or at the truck parking areas. Call it a free night if you will.

One interesting point of interest (if you are a history buff) the old Wendover Airport and the Enola Gay Hangar (the place where the crew and plane trained for the A-bombing of Japan)

The Bonneville Salt Flats is a few minutes to the North-east as well, if you are a racing fan.

My two cents: Bag I-80, and get off on Hwy 50 (The loneliest hwy) for the rustic trip. Hickison Petroglyph BLM rec area has a campground about mid way. The must see would be Great Basin Natl. Park just before you get to UT. You can reconnect with I-80 via Hwy 6 and I-15 towards Salt Lake City.

OR, you can continue east on I-70 and hit Arches Natl Park, Colorado Natl. Monument, and other must see places in CO. All beautiful spots.

I appreciate all the responses thus far and plan to locate each recommendation as they are posted on my Nevada map.

Once I have a good representation of "must see" and camping locations along my proposed route through Nevada, then I can re-visit my travel routing.

I'm sure I'll have some follow-up questions as I pull together your recommendations.

I traveled along hwy 50 E. as the above mentioned post suggested. Great hwy to get away from it all. Just make sure you have spare gas containers in case you missed the last service spot 73 miles away. I did the eastbound trip in June from rte 80 out of San Fran into Reno, picked up 50 east at Fernley & continued into Salina, Utah than took 70 east to 191 south into Moab. It was a beautiful trip that I may do once more before I die. From Moab you have many choices. Colorado is east the 4 corner area is just SE, Page AZ, grand Canyon west, NM south or head S from Flagstaff into S. AZ, Just so much to see & do. The only thing to avoid is the heat so time of year is crucial to these areas. GL & safe travels. BTW towed 30 ft TT with F150, just the two of us & our little dog, no problems.
