October in Cottonwood, AZ

Planning an October trip to Cottonwood, AZ. Looked at Dead Horse State Park and Verde Valley RV Resort and either would work for us. Any thoughts on those 2 places or recommendations of others in that area? Meeting some family there and need a place that also has rental cabins available. Could also be closer to Sedona if you know of a good CG. Thanks.

Happy RVing,
Jeff

Jeff,
We live in the Cottonwood area and have camped at Dead Horse State Park a few times. We also stayed at Verde Valley RV Resort (aka Thousand Trails RV Resort) a few miles south of Cottonwood on AZ-260 once or twice. Both of those locations have cabins, but we've never rented or seen the inside of those cabins.

Quail Loop at Dead Horse has lots of trees and is nearer the cabins. The other RV sites are in a more open area. All sites have electric and water, but no sewer connection (there is a dump station at the Park entrance/exit).

Verde Valley RV Resort has full hookups, a pool, and other amenities.

DW (she works at Out of Africa Wildlife Park near Cottonwood) has heard good things from guests to the park about Lo Lo Mai Springs Campground. The Lo Lo Mai website says they have cabins. This campground would be a bit closer to Sedona.

Hopefully that is of some help. If you'd like more info, please let me know.

Cottonwood elevation is ~3,600ft so averages ~10degF below Phoenix highs. Plus, Mingus Mountain and the Black Hills mountain range, are about 1/4mi to our west. That means our visual 'sun set' is earlier for us than it is for those at lower elevations that have lot of flat land to their west.

Sedona is to the east of Cottonwood and ~800ft higher in elevation so temperature averages maybe a degree lower than Cottonwood.

Sherm- Thanks so much for that CG information. I'm shooting for Dead Horse SP as our best option. Quail CG would be our choice as it's closest to cabins.

bdreinv- Weather is always a concern but the averages I found for October were in the 70 -80 degree range. Warmer towards end of month. That works for us and hopefully also for our Tuscon and Texas family that will be coming.

Happy RVing,
Jeff
