Outrageous prices

We're headed to FL for some part of Dec and Jan. My wife has been looking at campgrounds there and on the way. She happened into one the other day that was asking $85 a night which seems like a common price for winter in FL. For some reason she looked at the same campground a day later and the price went to $182. Needless to say, we're not going there.

I detest membership camping groups like TT. My parents got hooked into joining one and it took some $$$ to get them out after my Dad died and Mom couldn't camp any longer.

To keep this post somewhat positive, I wanted to recommend Indian Springs state park in GA. We purchased the 29MV a few months ago and took it to the park as our maiden voyage. It's a really pleasant park on a small lake. It's not very far off of I-75 just south of Atlanta so it's perhaps a nice place to stop on your way south/north to/from Florida.

One advantage is that it's far enough from a busy highway to avoid road noise. https://gastateparks.org/IndianSprings

when supply and demand equalize so does the pricing... they have more demand than you have supply... wait till 4th quarter food pricing comes into play..

They may have sold out of the cheap seats as well.. so only "premium" spots are left at the higher cost

Another great park close to Indian Springs and convenient to I75 south of ATL is High Falls Stae Park.

We just got back to Alabama from 7 weeks on the road to SD, ID, WY and MT. Did not see any full campgrounds. One private one had cut their prices.

Lots of people, including yours truly, head to Florida for the winter. There are more people looking for a site than there are sites available.
If you don't have to be near a coast, the resorts inland might be the way to go.

We did 3 plus weeks in June including stays in 5 different campgrounds in Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Now granted, it is summer in the south. But, there was nothing sold out and sites available in every location. The highest we paid was at Ft. Wilderness and I believe it was around $150/night. The cheapest was at a KOA in SC at $55/night.

We have had a permanent place in Venice for 12 years and there are several campgrounds in the area. However the state run campgrounds are booked up a year in advance. You might find one near Venice but it would not be a really high end place but more than adequate.

The evolution of economic systems is Agrarian, Industrial and then Service, however I think ours has evolved a step further. The service or tertiary economy has evolved to a fourth system, the racket economy.

I think last year we paid $85 per night at our favorite CG. This year, $218 per night. I feel your pain. And it's not EVERY campground raising their prices. I found some we've been to that are still within reason. Not sure why that is and why so dramatic of an increase.

They wouldn't raise their prices that high if people were not willing to pay it. At some point folks need to realize just accepting outrageous prices isn't always the best route.

I for the life of me can't understand why folks are literally lining up to pay MSRP for a new vehicle.

$85 to $218???? that is what is called price gouging by any standard..

We have a 2022 F450 6.7 CCLB on our lot. $110,000. Sticker says $80,000. It literally is written on the sticker. "Convenience Fee $30,000". We also have a used 2020 F350 6.7 CCLB. w/28,132 miles. $85,000.

Being retired we use campgrounds as a place to park the MH while we go out site seeing and exploring the country. Do not sit around the camp site “enjoying” the campground. Do not need a campground to entertain us. We do not go back to the same campground to stay. Too many places to see and things to do in the USA that we have not done yet.

I stay at Florida State Parks every winter. Cost is usually about $20 - $25 a night. They fill fast, and I make reservations 11 months in advance. They have many parks and some have full hookups. All sites have water connections. You can only stay 2 weeks at a time. So I move around a bit. Usually not too far.

The price of any commodity is what the consumer is willing to pay. Thats what inflation, recession and depression is all about. The purpose of the central bank, (Federal Reserve) is to regulate what economists term our "animal spirits", however it's largely a guessing game. While otherwise, when people stop buying $7.00+ diesel fuel and $5.00 gas, paying "convenience fees" for the privilege of buying an RV, $15.00 a pound for beef, yadda,yadda,yadda, the prices will come down and people will buy again or recession will set in and the guy with the convenience fee will be auctioning off his office furniture.

I use the word never cautiously because never is a long time. When I come across businesses like this that blatantly price gouge I make a note to never use this business.

Agreed. But I think you'll find most dealers across the nation are doing this. It's supply and demand. Demand shadows supply. But yeah, I think it's wrong as well but I have no control of that. I don't work in sales. I've been looking for a new(er) 1 ton for over a year and refuse to pay the bloated prices.
