Planning Trip to Zion in November..

We are planning a 14 day trip in November, 2.5 travel days each way. We want to see Zion and Bryce. Any suggestions on RV parks, problems with roads, etc. We are in a Jayco 23MRB Travel Trailer. Want to hit a park with shore power at least every few days, but are also fine with a central location where we can just drive to other spots. We have never been in the area. Thanks!!!

Look around the Kanab, Utah area. There are several private campgrounds there and it's a good location to "home base" for both Zion and Bryce Canyon. We stayed at the "Crazy Horse RV Campark" a couple of years ago and it worked fine as a centralized place w/full hook-ups. Zion is about 40 minutes away and Bryce is about 90 minutes. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is 5 miles north of town and worth a few hours to take a tour. Utah's Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is also about 5 miles north of Kanab and is a very interesting place to visit as well.

If you want to spend a couple of days close to Bryce check out the US Forest Service Red Canyon Campground. No hook-ups but there is a dump station.

St George, Utah is also a pretty good place to park but it's a bit further away from Zion (about an hour) and Bryce (about 2.5 hours). Nevada's Valley of Fire State Park is about 1.5 hours away and well worth a day. Also, there are several campgrounds on the north west side of Lake Mead. We spent a week in this area in April of 2016.

We haven't been in these areas that late in the season but given the elevation - Bryce is over 8000' (I just looked at a picture of my daughter next to a sign showing 8819' elevation) - I'm guessing it may be on the cool to cold side of things. Check out the Park web pages on the nps.gov site - they should have some details about what the average weather conditions are that time of year.

It's a fabulous area and there are a lot of things to see for sure. We make at least one, sometimes two trips down there each season.

Nothing wrong with above locations. We however prefer to stay closer to avoid having to drive 2-3 hours a day just getting to and fro. Springdale has several decent parks as well as the Watchman in the park at Zion. Watchman does not have full hookups but some do have electric. At Bryce Ruby's has full hookups right outside the park and is a pretty nice place.
Unsure of what you like to do but a couple days at Bryce will get you to all the view points and most hikes. 3 days will get you on every trail they have to offer. However there are some other excellent areas close by. Kodachrome basin also a good camp area is a Utah State Park, Escalante area not to far for a day trip
.
If you are into hiking check out Bull Valley Gorge which is not far from Kodachrome Basin, also Round Valley Draw also not far from Kodachrome. Both are slot canyons that don't require technical gear. Outside of Escalante down the Hole In The Rock Road are a plethora of slots some very easy some significantly harder. Peekaboo, Spooky and Brimstone are easy slots, Zebra and Tunnel Slot also easy. Harris Wash is a fine hike as well down a beautiful wash. Too many hikes to list in that area. If you go to Hole In The Rock read the book about the Hole In The Rock I think it is by Juanita Brooks. Absolute crazy story about the Mormon trek from Escalante to the Bluff, Blanding area. If you go to the end of the Hole In The Rock Road to the actual Hole In The Rock it will make much better sense as to the trials and tribulations and to think they thought that was the easier of the many obstacles they ran across.
Also a day trip down Highway 12 past Escalante to Boulder is one of the most spectacular drives you will ever do.

We were there last summer and camped at Zion River Resort in Virgin, Utah. We made a day trip to Bryce Canyon. The campground was fabulous. Concrete pads with first class amenities, laundry, camp store, activities, etc. great spot and we hope to go back.
