Pontiac Lake SP

Spent Memorial Day weekend at Pontiac Lake SP in Michigan, located not far from my home base. This has become a little annual event for some of the family so we had four different campsites with both RV's and tents on them.

I was able to snag my favorite campsite #87, has a lot of shade and a little privacy from the neighboring sites.........,

Bob

Hey Bob, did you give up your trailer to family and sleep in the tent?

Lee,

Lol...., actually my nephew stayed in the tent. My three sister's (and BIL's) had their FW's and TT's on the other three campsites along with the younger family members staying in tents.

We all kicked our off-spring out of our RV's a few years ago, so they have to start out on the ground like we did...., no more free meals

LOL.... My SIL is 6'9" and prefers to stay in a tent. Looks like a 'cozy' family site for our extended family

Bob, my uncle just told me about a place in your home city called Waldenwoods. What are your thoughts about this place? I'm generally a state park kind of guy (I was just at Higgins and will be at Otsego in 2 weeks).

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

Waldenwoods is about a mile from my home base, and my cousin has been a member there for a number of years. It is a private membership RV resort and has a number of different amenities, some open to the public (not camping). It's not what I would call a five star RV resort, but it's nice for being as close to to Metro Detroit as it is. It's been about 8 years since I've been in there, but I do remember that the sites were small and close together.

Years ago they over-sold the membership and it was difficult for members to use the facility for camping, but I don't know if that is still an issue today.

Like any private membership RV resort, many folks don't like them. One has to use them a lot to justify the $$$ investment. Some folks will buy into them and regret it a year later.

I have nothing against private membership RV resorts, as a matter of fact I have been a member of OAI for about 15 years and it works great for me (OAI has five resorts around Michigan).
