Question on RV Camping on the OBX of NC

My family and I have made summer visits to the OBX of NC for the past 25 years and in the past have always stayed at motels and time shares in the past in the Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills area. Now that we have a Jayco Jay Flight SLX 212QBW we would like to pull it to the coast and enjoy it. I have read reviews on several locations, but would like to hear from those who have actually camped and what their options are of the different locations. I like to pier and surf fish and the wife enjoys the beach.

Stay in Rodanthe. Multiple campgrounds to choose from and a pier for fishing. Not much of a night life and it's a drive to get to the more popular restaurants, shopping and touristy places. We have stayed there every summer for the last 4 years. The beaches are actually part of the National Park in that area.

About the only time we may hit the shops is when it is raining cats and dogs.

The only night life I'm looking for is cleaning a cooler full of fish.

Which campground do you prefer or are they all about equal?

Camp Hatteras is our choice. This year will be year #4 with the TT. Plenty of activities for the kids and a pier just N of the campground.

Never stayed at the KOA, only driven through it. We liked the layout of Camp Hatteras. Easy in, easy out. Plenty of activities for the kids. Spots located from dune front clear across 12 to the sound. Plus its a family run business.

I think both are about equal. Kids like pool at KOA so that's where we stay.
