Rapid City area rv recomendations

Goin through Rapid City SD area on I90 headed to Rawlins WY. Rapid City is around 1/2 way to Rawlins. Lots of camp grounds but some look like old mobil home parks, not much of a stop. KOA's look good, maybe state parks. Suggestions please for a 30ft 5th wheel.

We once stayed at a sleepy place right on the south edge of Deadwood. I was nothing fancy but nice, unfortunately do not recall the name.

Have you considered taking I90? It is a little shorter drive, and maybe stop near North Platte. There is a Cabella's parking lot in Sydney. That you most likely can overnight in for free.+

Edit: Just looked up the Sydney Cabella's. They even have electric sites for RVs. Not free, but looks convenient.

Another edit; That Cabela's might be a longer drive than what you want ~9.5 hours, but there is a time zone change in there somewhere. There is another in Kearney NE, that might be closer to the 1/2 way point

Rafter J Bar Ranch just outside Hill City was AWESOME. Looks like it's a little far off your route though... It's about an hour or so drive into Rapid City from Hill City (IIRC).

Avoid Rapid City KOA.... Terrible, sites are mud and management is the worse I have ever encountered.

I 2nd Rafter J Bar, nice place but as said a little off your route. We stayed in the Bad Lands once on our way to Colorado.. Relatively easy in out from I90. Kind of like camping on Mars but the kids had fun....

Rapid City area rv recomendations

I’m there now. Great place. Great location.

Rapid City Cabellas allows overnights I believe. Even has a dump station.

Another suggestion that’s a bit off your path is the KOA in Custer SD. We spent 10 nights there a couple of years back and thoroughly enjoyed it. The town is a bit touristy but nice.
